Nacho news for crrush

Post by ratcheese »

I ran across this fellow Texan's blog when I was searching the internet for information about how to start a food blog. She is an expat living in NYC. She is also a professional writer and photographer, so there is some nice food pr0n on her site.

As I read her rant about Nachos, I was amazed to see her using the same terminology (if you want to call it that) as I did in our discussion: lazy, pile of chips, stuff poured on top, processed cheese whiz, nacho cheese type references...you get the picture.

In the second paragraph she recounts the same basic story as another food writer I read recently: namely Nachos were invented by someone in Piedras Negras...and I had to laugh again, for several reasons.

But the third paragraph got even better. In fact I think she may have opened herself to libel charges by claiming a particular Texan, a native of San Antonio no less, invented Ball Park Nachos., (All thinking Mex lovers know only a Californian could, or would, come up with something as lame as those testaments to laziness.)

She has some good recipes, also: Houston Creamy Green Salsa, a good Taco recipe, etc., Its easy to see why her site is so popular. I am not on her level when it comes to taking photos, nor do I have an interest in the popular style of food writing, but I am inspired by her efforts, nonetheless.

Give it look, I think you'll enjoy her site.

Oh, she has a very interesting lard-free flour totilla recipe she raves about, also. I'm going to give that one a try in the near future.

Thanks for posting. I ran across her blog a few years ago, around the time I had my first puffy taco (speaking of Tex-Mex/not-authentic-Mexican food). Another reason I love San Antonio: Henry the Puffy Taco is the unofficial mascot of the city's AA team, the Missions. (The official mascot is the Ballapeno. Love.)

Ratcheese,

Very interested in your food blog. What is going to be your editorial policy on comments?

Ha, if I get it up and running I guess I'll have to take as I dish it out, won't I? :D

Seriously, I won't do it unless I can afford the time to edit and revise more than I do here. And, my focus would be entertainment and humor rather than serious food writing.

What I really would like to do is a legitimate restaurant review embedded in short stories, with the emphasis on humor. Experimental sort of stuff.

Why, do you think I might have a prospective commentator lined-up already? :)
