Where do you eat at home
Re: Where do you eat at home
I have 3 young kids and think family meal time is extremely important. We always eat at the kitchen island because its big and all five of us can sit around it. If we have guests over we eat at the dining room table.

We eat at the dining table. The (smallest) Del Webb (senior ghetto) design, in which we live, uses the philosophy of a (small) Great Room, combining the dining and living rooms with the kitchen. So, all meals are at the table.

As John Wayne once said: "Life's tough. It's even tougher if you're stupid."

At the dining table or just outside of it by the pool.
...Weather permitting.
Only pizza on the couch.

Re: Where do you eat at home
I am by myself for a month at the time while hubby works overseas. During this time I usually eat in the kitchen, standing up - making a meal out of whatever is handy (sharing most of what I have with three dogs). I rarely cook just for myself. When hubby is home I love to cook elaborate meals and we always eat at the table in the breakfast nook. It is nice to be able to enjoy our meal and converse with each other. When the weather is nice we eat at our patio set on the deck - it is much more civilized here once he gets home.

Usually at the built-in breakfast table in our kitchen/den (kind of L-shape open great room of sorts). I don't have tv trays, but the TV is in the den, which is connected to the breakfast area/built-in table, which is connected to the kitchen. The tv can be seen from the table, much to my frustration.
I grew up in a family that ate on tv trays (the table top often could not be found under piles of whatever). My husband grew up in a family that ate together every night, at the table, in a very civilized manner, no tv. The family talked. I loved that - and to me, doing so was a rebellion against the 'everyone for themself, in front of the tv' lifestyle I knew. But ... he is also a rebel, and would rather eat in front of the tv - something he never knew. So far, he's winning. *sigh*

Whether it's the two of us or we're dining solo, we sit at the dining table in the kitchen. No TV, no phone interruptions. We usually put on some nice music & candles.
We're working on our house to get the dining room back. It's going to take a major shift of furniture in all of the house, but I'm really looking forward to having a big dining room table again & all the big group dinners.
