MEAT me on Fulton Street

Post by RouxTheDay »

OOPS, I did it again….
Yep, I’m guilty of dining at the new Ruth’s Chris in Harrah’s hotel for the 2nd time. AND-it was my choice this time. I seriously want to be mad at them and NOT patronize a business that abandoned us in our time of need but I just can’t resist for some reason. Go ahead, call me names but it was fantastic…again.
It was on a Saturday night at 7:00 and we didn’t have a reservation but they were super nice and squeezed us in….and none of us had on a nice tie. :D
We were a party of 3 and were seated at a great table in the “front” room.
Our waiter was one of the best we’ve had anywhere in a long time….his name was Mitch and he was perfect for us.
We enjoyed martinis as we looked over the menu and wine list. No surprises on the food we ordered. (chop salad, filet, mashed potatoes, creamed spinach, asparagus) We narrowed our wine selection down to two choices and were pleasantly surprised to discover that Mitch was very knowledgeable about just about every wine on the list! I think we had a Hanna Cabernet …but I lost the cork and I can’t remember for sure. (nor can I remember the other option)
The food and service were flawless. There are places where the food is amazing but the ambience keeps me away. This place is the opposite. The atmosphere is my ideal. I’d go there even if the food wasn’t great….but I’m sure glad it is.

REDEMPTION
This past Saturday I met some friends at LaBoca…yeah, this is still my favorite.
I got there early and enjoyed a vodka at the bar with Sybil.-learned that we grew up in the same hood. (I just did it first.J) My friends arrived and we were seated in front of one of the open doors which was very nice. I didn’t get to choose the wine so we had 2 bottles of PN rather than the Malbec that I like but it was adequate. We decided on the gnocchi and proveleta appetizers. Before that arrived Jared brought us the special app for the night which was a wonderful brisket with some pickled (in house) veggies and a special garlic dip? ..I didn’t eat the dip but everything else was fantastic. The gnocchi and proveleta were as expected and I was getting pretty full before my skirt steak arrived. …or so I thought.;) 2 of us ordered the skirt steak and one ordered a bone in rib-eye. (I think that’s what it was.) We shared the fries and had a really wonderful meal which unfortunately ended abruptly due to a phone call from the Baton Rouge jail. (yes, they have sons + LSU game...figure it out)

Two Saturday night dinners at two steakhouses. Both fantastic-yet still apples/oranges, IMO.

AH, I clearly recall the time I was interupted with having to go to OPP....

I got to try that Lagniappe from Chef Jarod last Thursday. The Kobe brisket was melt in your mouth good. And the pickled okra and squash, awesome! The 'dip' on my plate was homemade mustard that was out of this world good. The guy is a culinary genious.

Roux, excellent report, thanks!

OPP....as in Ontario Provincial Police? Are (were) you a Canuk? I lived outside Toronto for several years.

OPP: Orleans Parish Prison. Though I am from a family of canuks. Quebec is where my Dad's family still lives.

the only collect calls you get after 10 pm are not going to be good ones...though it is better to receive than to give in this instance.
After Mon & Tues, even the calendar says W-T-F!

The good thing is they can't call collect to a cell phone -- it has to be a landline.

I really do like this Ruth's better than the one in Metairie....and they take your Harrah's card for comps too!
