An exciting day in the big city

Post by kcdixiecat »

Have a roast on cooking, the dogs are laying by the door watching it rain..Doug's asleep in the recliner with the surround sound BLARING...I'm in the living room playing mah jong and drinking margaritas. What's everyone else doing for dinner tonight?

Grins..I've never been one to drink alone..but for some reason..today just seemed like the day to do it.

Hubby is at Italian Pie with his gun club buddies so I called Jag to see if she wanted to do lunch but she's busy. So I'm sitting here watching PBS eating my annual Big Mac. Woo hoo.
I like kids. They taste like chicken.

Had pancakes, sausage and cheese grits with orange juice and iced tea on our back porch while the rain fell. Lovely morning. I have a roast cooking now, will try the crash potatos tonight with it. Carrots and green beans too. I have a stale loaf of bread so I may make a bread pudding. The puppy has been in all day, following me from room to room. The kids have done their homework and now have Legos all over my den. DH had to meet with a client this morning and is now working on his computer. Nap mat and school uniforms are washing. It's not too often we have an unscheduled day - I am REALLY enjoying this. I may even take a nap!!!

I went to Janita's for breakfast as I do most Sundays. Ran into Roux the Day and of course Kimmie and Duke were there, so it was nice to see some friends, especially since I was dining solo this morning.

Went to Whole Paycheque to buy a chicken to roast today, it's marinating now. Hard boiled some eggs so they'll be available for the week as well. As usual, the chicken and eggs somehow ended up being $50...lol

Start Fitness Boot Camp tomorrow..so just getting all my ducks (err...chickens) in a row today so I wont have much to do during the week.

Big breakfast at a place that does omelets to order. Had to laugh, the guy in front of us in the line had the omelet cook make his egg whites-only-- to which he added bacon, sausage, ham, and extra cheese.

Flank steaks (sale at Dorignac's) are marinating, waiting for a break in the rain to drag the kettle out a bit later this afternoon. Will grill some zucchini spears at the same time, and throw together a little penne and pesto to go with.

Just finished rubbing some spices on our Baby Backs for later. Going to have them with Jag's potatoes.... also bought a bag of shredded cabbage that I'll add Marzetti's to for slaw.

Good day for a marathon monster movie dvd viewing! Happy Sunday, gang. How 'bout them Saints?????? :)

Nice lazy morning with coffee and the paper, after scrambled eggs and Seeduction bread from Wholier Than Thou. I'm simmering leeks and potatoes to make vichyssoise for dinner, which we'll have with leftover chunks of beef tenderloin and whatever else I can scrape together.
How do you play Mah Jongg alone? I used to play it, maybe 25 years ago - I remember enjoying it but I can't remember much about it now.

I play online! I've never actually played with real tiles.

The nap didn't last long...the weinies decided they needed to bark at something in the backyard. So, I'm up and baking Jodyrah's blueberry cream cheese coffee cake.

I love days like this. Reminds me of snow days when I was a kid. Hmmm I guess I should have made a big pot of chili instead of the roast.

I remember the tiles as being really beautiful, and they had such satisfying clicks when you put them down on the board. I don't think I could play online though - I don't remember the first thing about it.
Food ref: my vichyssoise came out beautifully. It is now chilling for dinner.
