Name that pepper

Last winter killed my pepper tree. It had previously been evergreen. I have not seen it in any nurseries. It grew about 4 1/2 feet tall and produced thousands of tiny, killer hot peppers. They looked similar to ornamental peppers, starting out dark green, turning dark red. I'd like to grow one from seed but have no idea what it is.

Peter Peppers? My grandfather grew these peppers for years and they kind of fit your description. I would describe the plant as a large bush rather than a tree, though.

I was gifted a plant exactly like the one you describe. I have some dried peppers from last year which I used to make baby plants. If you want some I can share.

Google Chile Pequin and see what you find. My guess is that you had some variety of that plant. They make excellent Hot Vinegar.

Did the peppers point upward or downward? Did they grow in clusters, or as single peppers spaced around the branches? I had a thai bird's eye pepper bush for several years until this winter's freezes killed it. It's a capsicum frutescens, though there are countless varieties within the frutescens species.

Those are not Chile Pequins, for sure. See if you can match your pics to google pics of Tabasco Peppers or those hungryone mentioned.
