any crabs around

Post by LauraMc »

I'm getting desperate enough for boiled crabs that I'm willing to go to the lakefront. Anyone know who has good ones now? Haven't been able to get any in Old Jeff since all this BP business started.

Middendorf's, U. S. 51 at Pass Manchac. Joe's Crab Trap, Peavine Road at Lake Pontchartrain. (One mile from Laplace, North).

I thought about Middendorf's but with the weather so yucky we decided to go to Deanie's instead. We should have just gone to Capt. Sids and brought home some crabs. We went around 2pm and I knew it would be crowded but we got seated in the back with several large groups with kids around us. Then the waitress told me they hadn't had boiled crabs in a long time. I must have looked so disappointed that she went to check. She said they had some but they were very light. I ordered 3 XL anyway. They were light but tasty and spiced well. Also had a dozen raw oysters. Hubby had boiled crawfish.
The food was good but the atmosphere was like a zoo. One of the large parties had several diners leave without paying and then there was an argument among the others and how they weren't going to pay. One even said, "Well people do that; eat and run". Finally one of the women paid the others bill. Then the same one who made the comment proceeded to say how it was a good thing the other girl paid because he would have caused a scene and he knew how to f**k that waitress up if she thought he was going to pay and the curse words and false threats of what he would have done continued until the waitress came to clear their table. Amazing how other diners can ruin your dinner. If I hadn't thought the guy wouldn't pull a gun on me, I would have told him to shut up.

Go to Middendorf's next time. We avoid Deanie's like the plague. Mrs. Fury had Middendorf's boiled crabs last weekend and they were superb.

Laura,
The Galley on Metairie Rd does a great job with boiled seafood.

Next time if/when you want boiled crabs etc, call a couple of places first before you go and ask if they any, then you won't be disappointed (in case they don't have them)....

Best ones Ive had were at Perino's Boiling Pot over on the the Westbank. I love Middendorf's and it's not that much farther to go there, but I always get hung up eating thin catfish there.....they call Perino's the boiling pot for a reason......

Wait a minute...I'm confused. Middendorf's is not much further away than Perino's? Do you live in Laplace?

I called a couple of retailers in Metairie Friday and no one had crabs. I did see some huge soft-shells yesterday at Lil Kats on W. Metairie. Besides crawfish that's all they had. You gotta wonder how many retailers this oil leak will put out of business.

The Crab Trap on the lake in LaPlace has them too. Not as far as Middendorf's. The bbq hard crabs are so good.
