Vincents in Metairie

Post by BTG »

Just wanted to report about a great lunch on Friday at Vincents.
corn and crab bisque(of course)
crab cake entree
eggplant parmesan

Every thing was very good, including the garlic bread that they bring you when you sit and the side of pasta and veggie.
I fell in love with the waitress when she told me that you get a free martini with each entree. I got mine and my wife ordered a soft drink. About ten minutes later the friendly lady asked if I would like to have the martini that my wife had turned down. She earned a very good tip with that little move.

It really is kind of an eye opener to see how much less a bill is when there is no alcohol on it. We got out of there for $50 before tip for that very fine meal.
Kind of felt a little down about the place the last two times we went for lunch as it was not very full and kind of seemed like an old people joint. Much better crowd this time.

I said the elderly belong in their own room....;)

Just curious, did the martini's make you sleepy when you went back to work? (If you did in fact go back of course)

No, I was not working on Friday. No way would I have been able to be productive after that much food and two drinks.

I haven't been to Vincents in ages. I was never turned on by the place (only been uptown) but with everyone talking it up lately I'm going to have to give it a try again. They did have a good showing at Taste of the Town.

It is not a place that I think about much for dinner, but it works out well for a lunch date. The corn and crab bisque makes it worth a visit.

When are we going to go get a RB po-boy at that place by your work?

I find it makes a difference in the cooking when Vincent is there. We've been lucky enough that he was at the uptown location the last few times we went.

here's what I wrote last year:

started with:
Corn & Crabmeat Bisque served in a toasted bread bowl
Oysters Vincent w/crab and italian stuffing swimming in olive oil, all the better for dredging the remains of the bread bowl if you haven't used it all to mop up the bisque.

for entrees:
Fettucine Alfredo w/panneed veal
Bracialoni/Top round stuffed with bacon, artichoke hearts, garlic and parmesan cheese; baked and topped with red sauce and side of angel hair

both entrees came w/house salads, which I highly recommend w/the blue cheese vinaigrette dressing.
chatting w/Vincent about the dressing led me down memory lane of Campo de Fiori market in Rome where I bought some dried spices, which turns out to be part of the secret formula for the blue cheese vinaigrette. this in turn led to great discussion about the amazing marinated artichokes in Rome, which Vincent then brought out one to our table. if you want to order them for an app, they're simply called roma artichokes. (RouxTheDay, these are the same you had but not deep fried)

everything was perfectly cooked and seasoned. service was spot on.
