Village Inn

The quality is good. The place is very dated and worn. The owners are local, they source local and they work their a$$es off.
had 2 dozen raw for lunch today. there were ginormous, kinda like have 4 dozen. so big and juicy, I had to have some fried to perfection (came w/mac n cheese and cole slaw). also shared a plate of veal parm. so much for Lent?
on today's buffet of fried shrimp, white beans, and pizza were crawfish etouffee and seafood gumbo.
thnx again EAC for posting about this gem.

Is that for dinner tonight too? I think Bam should take me.

I know the $3 doz are all day (T/W). these were twice, some even triple, the size served last Friday at Luke's. not sure if the buffet is all day or not, or if so, if the price changes for dinner.
the boiled crawfish were twice the size of what we picked up from RiverPond last week too.
it's way casual. for a minute, I thought I was in the Radisson restaurant in Fargo, yah.

The place is definitely dated and the floor could use a good mopping. But the food is local and plentiful.

The buffet is only for lunch. It's a pretty well kept secret that every Wednesday is all you can eat fried shrimp on the buffet. I've only done it once, with a vendor from out of tFown. The shrimp are of very nice size and seasoned well. Some may think too salty.

The oysters are excellent. My only problem with them is that the shucker hammers the knife into the shell to open them causing bits of shell in the oyster.

They do a real good job boiling crabs and crawfish. The crabs are lake and usually #1's in season. Not sure if they have them right now though.

Bam and I went last night. That whole Ash Wednesday sacrifice was taken to heart...they were out of Crawfish, Crabs AND Oysters on the half shell when we got there. We stayed and checked it out since we were there.

We both had the seafood gumbo, which we thought was pretty darn good, and the crawfish Veronica, a cheesy cream sauce over pasta. Very heavy but good. Could have used some green onion but whatever.

Kinda reminded me of the mom and pop places in Maine that I don't see much around New Orleans. Looks like a place I would have worked at in high school.

We may try Charles Sea Food next...it's hard getting me out of uptown though..

JAG, Charlie's post-Brigtsens is fab. I went for lunch a few months ago and was very impressed. Nothing like how it was beforehand, when it was in my opinion just a standard neighborhood joint. I'd definitely call it a destination. Worth going out of your way for! You know Roux and I work out that way so if y'all try it for lunch, give us a holler. :)
