La Madeleine

Post by bam bam »

I haven't eaten here in years. My associate took me to lunch. I still find the whole ordering process beyond confusing but at least the menus are at prominent places now. Anyway, 2 iced teas, 2 cups of soup and 2 sandwiches came to $32.50. So much for what I always thought of as a cheap ass date place in law school.

That being said, it was really quite good. But surprisingly expensive.

the lower end chains have really bumped up prices the last few years. basically a sticky fuel upcharge. at houstons a cheeseburger ($13) and a glass of the prisioner ($14) will set you back $40 per person w/tax and tip. one has a much better value prop at places like mat&naddies, dante's kitchen, atchafalaya etal.

I just returned from Village Inn on Jeff. Hwy. in River Ridge where they will deliver freshly shucked oysters to your table for $3/dozen (Tuesday and Wednesday) and you can eat all the freshly fried shrimp and white beans you want for $9.95 on Tuesdays.

The quality is good. The place is very dated and worn. The owners are local, they source local and they work their a$$es off.
