Crawfish

Post by flyinbayou »

OK, I'm getting a little itchy. Has anyone had them this year yet? Size? Price?

I saw them 2 weeks ago (when it was still pretty cold) at KJeans and and they were puny, too small to mess with and $4.25/lb

I have ponied up $4-4.50/lb. over the course of the last month for some mudbugs, but it was my understanding they were CA imports, and not precursors to the local season. Sizes were mixed, mostly to the small side, but I only got a pound at a time to go with my berled swimps and crabs.

I have them twice so far. Nice, big, meaty, but then my son cooked them. Don't know where he gets them from.

I've gotten them from KJean's twice this year, and they were reasonable size (not large by any means) and about 3.60/lb.

I broke down and bought some yesterday at Fisherman's Cove in Kenya. They were seasoned well, mid to small sized. $4.19lb. Some of my country friends would kill me if they knew I paid that much for them.

I was embarassed to admit it but I had them last week from River Pond on Airline...$4.50 ish?
Once I decide I want them and walk into a place, and smell them, I'm done. AND when I walked in the guy said, "oh, they're soaking now, gimme 5 minutes"...Totally past the point of no return.
They were small to medium and cooked perfectly. Lots of oranges and celery in the mix, too.

Chubby's on Gen. Meyer is about 3/4 mile from my house and they have a sign out which reads "Boiled Crawfish Coming Soon"...that's a first for them. I can't wait!
