Fresh hop brew
Fresh hop brew
There was an interesting article yesterday in NY Times Dining section about breweries using fresh hops to brew seasonal beers. They picked the hops a few weeks ago, and the beers themselves have a short shelf life. Some larger microbrewers like Sierra Nevada were doing some. Anyone know if any of the bars around NOLA have a fresh hop beer on tap?
Re: Fresh hop brew
None of the local bars have fresh hop beers on tap.
Of the American breweries that presently distribute their products to the great state of Louisiana, only Sierra Nevada, Rogue, and Moylan's make fresh or "wet hop" beers.
Of those three breweries, only Sierra Nevada sends us a "wet hop" beer . . ., and Sierra Nevada sends us bottles . . . not kegs. Louisiana gets one pallet (60 cases) of Sierra Nevada Harvest Ale.
If you wanna try it, you better hurry, I started out with about six cases, but I am down to my last 8 bottles or so.
Your next chance will then be in the Spring . . . when Sierra Nevada does its Southern Hemisphere Harvest Ale . . . featuring fresh hops picked in countries like New Zealand . . . whose hop harvest seasons run opposite to ours.
To be honest with you, the Stone beer that just came to market is plenty hoppy . . . hops do not need to be wet to be enjoyable.
