Clicquot and I were with a group of friends Saturday night for Dirty Linen Night, then dinner afterwards at the Pelican Club.
My dinner was fantastic as usual there. I started off with the goat cheese salad on arugula and baby greens, grapefruit and creamy olive oil dressing. My husband had the normal escargot in casserole. He always gets that. Others at our table got the lump crabmeat and shrimp cakes and the seafood martini of lobster, shrimp and jumbo lump crabmeat. We ordered a bottle of J Chardonnay and a bottle of J Pinot Noir for the first courses.
For the entree, we brought from our celler two bottles of Franks Family Vineyard big ass cab..no, that's not the name, just what I call it. So rich and full of fruit. A real mouth popper. I had the trio of Duckling. Leg confit, pan seared breast and Asian BBQ duck with Loisiana citrus sauce and dirty rice. This dish is always a consistant winner and I can't bring myself to order something else every time I go there.
Others at our table got the Louisiana Cioppino--Gulf Shrimp and Fish, Scallops, Mussels on top a bed of Linguini with tomato basil sauce. It smelled so wonderful. I also saw a beautiful filet with truffled mashed potato, baby veggies and Bernaise Sauce.
I had the pleasure of meeting Uptown Kevin, his wife and his parents. How bizzaar. He recognized Clicquot and she introduced us. He and his family are so friendly. His parents seems intrigued that we "knew" each other and Clicquot from an internet food forum.
A very fun night.

Thanks for the review. I'm looking for a place for the upcoming 22nd which is a Saturday and my wife's birthday. Pelican Club is one of our favorites.

They also have their coolinary special still running for $33.00 for four courses. I don't eat dessert, so I never get those prix fixe things. A real steal. price includes entree, choice of soup, choice of starter and dessert. A quick rendition with out getting specific:EatinAintCheatin wrote:Thanks for the review. Choice of:
Starter- spring rolls, shrimp cakes, goat cheese salad, baked oysters, scalloped stufffed artichoke (another one of my favorite things here, seafood martinin, escargot or beet salad.
entree choice of: seared tuna, chicken breast, ribeye (always excellent), trio of duck, gulf fish, filet, seafood fricassee, rack of lamb
desserts are numerous also. A very good selection for a prix fixe menu. Sometimes when you have those, you don't have as many choices as Pelican Club offers.

Went last night with a party of 4. 3 out of 4 went for the Coolinary menu - without details, I'll simply rate it GREAT! Also, for the FQ wary, they validate parking at the Monteleone garage, directly across the street. It's a snap.

Re: Pelican Club
My first trip to Pelican Club was not only great, but memorable to boot. How else could I describe a busy New Orleans restaurant with the "who's who" of upper class society rubbing elbows and sharing wine?
Ok, so I am definitely not high society, but it was fun nonetheless. There were two large round tables next to us that sat empty from the time we sat down until we had ordered appetizers and enjoyed a couple of cocktails. Then, in walks a huge group of well dressed patrons, some of them drinking from Galatoire's go-cups. It was then that I recognized one of the young ladies as Cliquot, from the forums. First, a little back story...
Believe it or not, I met Cliquot and her husband in person for the first time at Cindy's Backstreet Kitchen in NAPA, almost two years ago! She and her husband were dining at the table next to us and she was wearing the requisite fleur-de-lis earrings that all proper NOLA women wear while on vacation, so I struck up a conversation. Who knew that we had already crossed paths?
Fast forward to Pelican Club in NOLA....
So we started talking a bit and she tells me Yvette is part of the group, and it just got better! Yes, I think we were all shocked that we ran into fellow foodies on a random Saturday evening at a random New Orleans establishment, but my parents and wife took it all in stride. Was a fun time and I was thrilled to put a face with a name and get a glass of unbelievable California cabernet. Really good stuff and was the highlight of the evening.
The other highlight was the duck. Wow, duck three ways was pretty much the pinnacle of dining on duck in the New Orleans restaurant scene. Actually, the whole meal was good. We had some baked oysters as an appetizer and my wife and parents all got the Coolinary special, which included a generous "seafood martini." The fish dish was fantastic as was the filet mignon. Wish I had more time to write about the food but I'm in a hurry and my mind is filled with menu ideas I've been putting on paper for the past week.
Thanks again forum friends Yvette and Cliquot!
