Never made it Casamento's sadly. My friend got too busy. Perhaps this weekend! Had a big oyster poboy yesterday from Riverfine Foods to assuage my craving!

Casamentos was my favorite for years...until I tried Bozo's. IMO the best oyster po-boy. Shucked and fried to order. 1/2 shell are good as well but their horseradish sucks.

Although a loyal Bozo's customer for many years I must agree with you, there, Jody! I recently wondered if I carried in my own brand of horseradish if I'd be charged.....liddage? jarrage? I think we already discussed horseradish on this or another forum. My own favorite is Beaver Brand Extra Hot. The late Zeke Unangst used to have it at his oyster bar on Metairie Road.

Who's selling sacks of oysters to the public?

Let's see...if I recall correctly, from Algiers Pernt...

The closest, as the crow flies...only a short ferry ride away... and the best in the city would be at P&J on Toulouse & Ramaprt. Call them and they will help you, or just get there EARLY and pick up a sack.

On the WB, across from Oakwood on Van Trump (near Tony Mandina's) is Benny's (366-8404). Call for availability. Next closest would be Vincent's (368-1544)on Lafayette (across from Red Maple). They have their sign out...OYSTERS!

Or, you can go to the Oyster House, next to the Shrimp Lot in Westwego on Louisiana St. Get them any way you want them there.

Also, you can go to Belle Chasse and there is an oyster processing house called BEZ. Right before you get to the South Gate for the Airbase. Great oysters. Better give them a call first.

One of the peak times, Thanksgiving (Oyster Dressing), is just THREE WEEKS form today!

Does anyone else use that "cute little oyster fridge" that Casamento's has at the end of the Oyster Bar, or is that unique?

We opened 2 half-sacks purchased from Metairie Seafood on Severn and Metairie Rd. Most were decent size with some monsters and very few clusters.

IMO, still not as salty as I like.

We're opening up 4 more sacks this weekend.

I will be opening up a half sack from Village Inn in River Ridge this weekend. I had some there yesterday for lunch. There were salty and plump but a little too large for on the half shell. We will be chargrilling them this weekend. I believe the oysters came from Buras.
