Former Copeland's St. Chas. site

Post by Gourmondo »

From Stacy Head's Office:

Dear District B Constituent,

Recently, CM Head was approached regarding the re-development of the Old Copeland's restaurant located at 4338 St. Charles (corner of St. Charles and Napoleon). The developers currently own Superior Grill on Saint Charles and are interested in opening an upscale/family seafood restaurant. Attached are artist renderings that depict the proposed facade. Notably, the plans require the leasing of 3 ½ feet of city sidewalk space (the sidewalk measures approximately 12 ½ feet) for occasional outdoor seating. We are not aware of any necessary zoning variances or waivers.

We would appreciate community input regarding the redevelopment. Accordingly, next Wednesday the developers, Gabe Garza and Joe Friend, will be available to discuss their proposed plans and answer any questions. This meeting will take place:

Sacred Heart's Mater Library

Gourmondo comment:

I don't have time to attach the attachments now, but can try later, if anyone's interested. The library is at the old First Baptist Church part of Sacred Heart. You can park across Gen. Pershing in the lot and should enter SH at the Carondelet St. entrance.

I'd definitely be interested in seeing them Gourmondo.

I used to live 2 blocks away and am very interested in the goings on in the neighborhood.

I'll try to post them later. Apparently, there are quite a few folks who don't want to see this site developed.

I don't live in the neighborhood, but I'd like to see the site re-developed. Yes, I know, no parking, blah blah blah. It is a high-profile corner, and it should be returned to commerce.

Well, good. I hope the building sits there and rots and becomes a hangout for a gang of homeless crackheads.
N.O. sure does prefer rotting boarded up buildings over development.

I wonder if the neighbors have concerns about dishwashers and the people who drive them to and from work. LOL!

Well, I'm a neighbor and I want it back in commerce as well. It doesn't have to be a restaurant, but anything befitting the space would be good. But preferably no more banks (is there that much money left in NOLA?). The one catty-corner appears to have been modeled after the Broad St. Pumping Station. I prefer it to a vacant lot however.

I am really looking forward to the new Borders at the Bultman site. Finally, a good selection of papers and periodicals Uptown for the first time in years. As you say, parking issues, etc., but it beats the alternative.

Keep us posted Gourmondo. It will be interesting to see what lands there.
It has been vacant way too long & looks really sad for the Ave.

I too am in Stacy Head's district. I would love to see that site re-developed.
