Where's my Half of Softshell?

Post by Jerry »

Last night we stop to eat on our way home.
I won't say where until the owner responds...

One of the specials is announced as 2 softshell crabs with one of two toppings...
I go for that as I had not had a softshell in months.
My plate arrives with one medium size crab and one half of another crab.
When I inquired as to what happened to half of the second crab, the kitchen returned with the answer that "depending on size" that's how they were being served.

At $24.95, served with just potato and veggies, should I have grounds to complain?

One and a half is one and a half, two is two.

Since you only received 3/4 of your order, you could have paid $18.75. Course owner would probably have taken his out of the waiter's tips...

Yes, you do have a legitimate point, I think. It is easy enough to amend the "specials" listing to say "crab and a half" or "12 ounces of softshell" or something similar. Last weekend, I bought medium sized live softshells for $4 each.

That is weird. The wait person should be told to explain that to the diner when ordering.......

So, according to that logic, I guess if they are running small they'll put 3 or more on your plate, right!!! (I don't think so). I would think that not only do you have the grounds to complain, I would also think that you have the basis of a fraud complaint to the BBB, and possibly further. That may sound a bit extreme, but it all depends on what the owner/manager says or does about the incident.
Please keep us informed regarding this, because if a certain establishment wants to conduct business in that manner, I would like to know so I don't patronize them.

Jerry, that's outrageous.

I have no problem with it, as long as it was advertised as "depending on size". But to order and receive it based on the description & price, and not be served two...

Nope. I wish you'd have gotten up and walked out.

LOL... 'course you were probably really hungry at that point!
