Liuzza's by the Track Reuben -- I Still Feel the Love
Liuzza's by the Track Reuben -- I Still Feel the Love
The first time we went to Liuzza's by the Track post-K, they weren't serving the Reuben yet, so we decided to eat elsewhere. We weren't nasty about it, but that sandwich (along with the occasional side of potato salad) was about the only reason we ever went there. Other things on their menu were OK, but the Reuben was sublime.
Since then, I had heard that the Reuben was back on the menu, but I'd also seen several negative posts about LbtT. Finally got there to judge for myself yesterday, and the Reuben was as delicious as ever. There was a slight design flaw, which I suppose may vary according to who's in the kitchen: while there always used to be layers of melted cheese protecting the nicely grilled bread from sogginess, our sandwiches yesterday were made with the dressing spread directly on one of the bread slices, leading to sogginess on one side. I hope they'll fix this, but if they don't, I'll still order what I have found to be New Orleans' only good Reuben. (I doubt I've tried them all, but I've never had a good one elsewhere.)
The potato salad is still good, too, and I was happy to see that the bar no longer sports one of those stupid Dr. Bob "Be Nice or Leave" signs (unless I missed it). When I see those signs, I usually leave.

That's so funny about the Dr. Bob sign-a friend gave us one years ago which we hide deep in a closet unless she is visiting.
Food reference--thanks for the reminder about LBTT--I live so close and just never seem to get over there!

You got it in one! Jacques-Imo's serves garbage, while LbtT serves a damn good REUben*. I wouldn't stand in line for three hours or sit in the bed of a pickup truck to eat it, though.GuySajerForgottenSoldier wrote:You hate Jacques-Imo's and like THIS place? And for a rueben?
*I assume that's what you were talking about -- I don't know what a "rueben" is unless it's a new street in the Quarter named after someone named Ben.
Isn't that sort of like saying "Hot irons in the eyesockets aren't as bad as a glass rod up the urethra"?Suzy Wong wrote:DON'T BE so harsh;)

Re: Liuzza's by the Track Reuben -- I Still Feel the Love
I'm no rEUben expert, but I did have one a couple weeks ago at Martin Wine Cellar. It was fantastic. It had a generous amount of corned beef, sliced very thin. There was melted cheese between the slices and it was very tender. The only negative was that it seemed like they put too much butter when grilling the bread. (Yes, I like mine grilled).
I have not had a LBTT reuben. I will next time I'm in the area.
