Pizza Tour- Slice Pizzeria

Had another trip on our Pizza Tour, visiting Slice Pizzeria on St Charles Ave. They are one of my favorites in town and I was a bit dissappointed in this visit. The search for the perfect pie is an ongoing endeavor and consistency is hard to find. Remember the dough is alive so it's always changing. The pizziolos change too so you never know what you are going to get from day to day.

Overall Score: 2.85 Rating: Slightly below Very Good

The Crust Score 3.4 Rating :Above Very Good
Best Crust so far in our ratings. Well baked with just a slight soggy element. Well shaped cornice with the crispy bottom, breadlike center and doughy section below the sauce. Our Pie had too much sauce which actually lowered the crust rating a bit. The crust was not overdeveloped or over handled in the forming which kept it tender.

The Sauce Score 2.8 Rating: Slightly below very good
There was a bit of controversy over the sauce due to the difficulties in creating any so called standard rating system. The sauce was too plain for some of us but some also liked the un adulterated tomato flavor which was bright and tart. It was not the cooked rich flavor that some like. It did not have a pronounced herb flavor either. As said above the pie had a bit too much sauce which in my opinon is better than not enough or overly baked applications. A bit more seasoning would have helped.

The Cheese Score 3.4 Rating: Slightly above Very Good
The cheese was of a medium quality here and did have some telefono that we looked for. It was very abundant and was well melted. I think the Pizzaiolo had an idea that we were watching and overloaded it with the cheese and sauce. It wasn’t too too much but again we are looking for perfection here so just a bit too much.

Extra Points: Score 1.8 Below Average

Extra points are given for things like herbs baked on the pie, sprinkling of parm befoe baking, store aroma and topping quality. The pie did not seem to have any herbs and parm baked on it, taking away from the score. The place didn’t have a prevalent aroma and the Pepperoni was of average quality. This is where Slice Pizzeria lost a few ratings points as one of our tasters gave zero extra pernts. To him this pie was nothing special that stood out at all and was average at best. I think that we have begun to swing our ratings towards a ratings curve based on pies we have previously sampled. Which is not all wrong as this category is just for those non scientific reasonings. Simply did you like it or not. This helps to round out the ratings to come to an overall rating that is not based on what I think is a correct pie but based on general enjoyment for everyone.
Although not rated, our second pie was with freshwater Mozzarela.
When we got the pie we weren’t sure if it was made correctly. Turns out that if you order the fresh mutz as a topping, it comes in addition to the regular cheese which we all thought was strange and definitely not what we expected.
I was disappointed with the ratings of Slice which is one of my personal favorites. Strangely, I have found that their individual slices are better than their pies, possibly due to the reheating aspect or the actual thrown size of the slice pie. Anyway, I urged all tasters to give their slices a separate rating on a separate trip.
Overall, Slice Pizzeria is worth checking out and can sometimes be outstanding in the search for the perfect pie.

Tower, Brooklyn, Ciros, Nino's, The Boot, and Sugar Park are all heads and shoulders above Wharehouse, IMHO (which is worth EXACTLY what you paid for it) :D

Our Compiled Ratings SO FAR in the search for the Perfect Pie: (Unedited and un biased)

PIZZERIA OVERALL SCORE
Warehouse District Pizza 3.33
Slice Pizzeria 2.85
Dough Bowl 2.68
Mark Twain 2.16

Now granted, there are differences in individual tastes and variances as discussed above but this is an excersize is for an overall group rating and I will be satisfied that the best score is generally the best pie based on criteria that we have generally agreed on before starting this.
Unless any of you choose not to give this game any credence, in which case Ill tell you that Slice is the best by far. Or sometimes Tower, or the Boot
Or is this a case of," when I want your opinion, Ill give it to you"
As an outcome to this sporting event,once we've sampled all the major playahz, Lets let the pepperoni fall where it may and give props where they're due.

P.S. Brooklyn was very unappealing when we first rated it although prior to the official ratings. Although it was their last night in the previous location and they deserve a second visit.

OK, OK, my opinion of Wharehouse might be colored just a tad by the temperament of the proprietor, who is an unpleasant pr%&k

Is this place actually named Wharehouse? I thought that first poster just misspelled Warehouse.
