Fried Chicken
Re: Fried Chicken
Joey K's on Magazine. It's takes 30-40 minutes but it is fresh every time, and good.

Re: Fried Chicken
Mandina's does very good fried chicken. You'll have to wait on it, but it's worth the wait. Neyeow's on N. Jeff Davis also has pretty good chicken.
Re: Fried Chicken
The fried chicken at Craby Jacks is pretty damn good, cooked to order, so it takes some time.
Also, the old Pampy's on Broad street is a tribute to Austin Leslie, may even have his name involved. You can get a #9 which is a throwback to Chez Helene.....2 pieces of fried chicken (they pour melted butter with parsley and garlic over it) , a stuffed pepper, and potato salad....brings back fond memories , but it's pretty expensive for what it is. You burn a 20 on this little venture...not sure it's worth it on a regular basis, but for a one shot deal, I think it is.
Obviously, both of these places have Austin Leslie as a common thread May he rest in peace............
The chicken at Two Sisters on Dernby St. is also an option. It's the kind of place you expect to get the real thing. Fried chicken and red beans and rice on Monday is a regular thing for me.
As far as the past is concerned, Eddies on Law Street over by the closed city dump was the benchmark for me....it was Wayne Banquet's family that has Lil Dizzy's....but I don't think it could ever be as good as that old dump of a place.....anybody remember Eddie's?

Re: Fried Chicken
I remember going to Eddie's one night when I first moved here around 25 years ago. The main thing I remember was thinking "you know, I probably don't belong in this neighborhood". I had the fried chicken and the folks couldn't have been nicer to a skinny white kid (I am not skinny after 25 years here).
The Barré family is behind the Freret St. Po-Boy Shop (at Upperline) and I think they have fried chicken, so I have been wanting to try it.

Re: Fried Chicken
There are lots of places to get good fried chicken here in town and some of them have already been listed. My favorite go-to place is McHardy's because it is so good and close by. However, the best chicken in town is at Willie Mae's Scotch House. Went there today for lunch and it was soo good. Their sides and cornbread are pretty good too, and they now take credit cards.

Re: Fried Chicken
I loved Austin Leslie & his fried chicken! And I loved Eddie's too. Went to their respective places & later incarnations for many years. Not so much on Lil Dizzy's, but I'll need to give them another chance.willifred wrote:The fried chicken at Craby Jacks is pretty damn good, cooked to order, so it takes some time.

I always made sure I drove when taking friends to Eddie's. Made the mistake of not driving once & as we pulled up to Law St, my date looked at me like I was crazy & drove off! I have no idea where we ate that night, but that was the last chance he had to have dinner with me!
Re: Fried Chicken
Cafe Reconcile's fried chicken is righteous (in multiple ways), and Dunbar's (corner of Dominican & Pine) is also very good (but it is closed for the summer).
Re: Fried Chicken
I like Emeril's chicken and waffles (lunch, brunch when open). I am also a fan of Willie Mae's (lunch again). I found Mr. Ed's crisp, greaseless and bland. My son had this comment re: Fury's...well fried, needed seasoning.
Re: Fried Chicken
I've had Fiorellis on Decatur a couple of times. Very good
