already feeling the effects of the spill
already feeling the effects of the spill
Went to Luke for happy hour Sunday. The waiter informed us drinks were still 1/2 price but due to the situation,, 25 cents oysters has been suspended. They are now $13 a dozen. Just happy to get some while I can.

John Besh price gouging. He's such a great ambassador for our city!
Re: already feeling the effects of the spill
What a drag. The oyster happy hour was one of my favorite "steals" in the city, although for every time we had a fast shucker who kept us plied in oysters, the next time there was a horribly slow/unskilled shucker who might get through a dozen in 15 minutes.
Is Besh really price-gouging if he's paying more for the oysters? Call P&J and find out if they've increased their prices yet.

Cooter's is a place that's never been afraid to stick it to it's customers and they are charging $8.50 a dozen. Same price as before Obama allowed our coast to be threatened by this tragedy. So I'd say "yeah. Besh is price gouging."

A dozen on the half-shell:
Felix's - $10
Acme - $11
Boubon House - $14
Redfish Grill - $15

Luke's non happy hour price is $13 dzn. All he did was discontinue the happy hour special. As for Cooter's, my oysters were usually dirty with bits of shell. I don't care how cheap they are, I want a good "shuck".... don't we all?
Re: already feeling the effects of the spill
Not saying Besh is or isn't price-gouging...just that it's worth calling and asking the question before jumping to conclusions. Lorin Gaudin did. She blogged about Parkway taking oysters off of the menu because of the oil spill.
To summarize: we may be seeing price hikes now b/c of refrigeration regulation put into place (before the spill), not because of the oil spill (yet) according to Sal Sunseri of P&Js.

I agree! Especially all he did after the hurricane for his employees and the city itself.bam bam wrote:He's such a great ambassador for our city!
