Cafe Degas

With the weather being as nice as it was, I thought of Cafe Degas when trying to decide where to eat with some of our friends this past Saturday night. I kind of forget about the place most of the time, but the patio area is really a nice atmosphere when the weather is this nice.
Atmosphere A+

I was happy to have 6:30 reservations to add to the chance that we might get out on the real patio and it worked. And even better, when we got there at 6:15, the bar was actually empty, which is very unsusual. I was please to have a cocktail with the wife while chatting up the bartender for a little while.

The food was good as usual. We had the cheese and fruit board, french onion soup, and escargot for apps. I love this soup.
For entrees I had a tile fish(I think is is also referred to as lemon fish). The fish was perfect. The side of some kind of rice and a sweet sauce with pecans was a great compliment. The three others at the table had the hanger steak with fries. Good as usual. The waiter had informed us that due to the busy streak they were on, that they were out of the veal medallions and the oyster dish. With such a limited menu as it is, I am suprised they ran out of these items so soon on a Saturday evening.
My wife had tried a great house red(Charnas or carnas I believe) while at the bar and was a little disapointed when we went to order a bottle for the table and was informed that they had just run out. No problem, we moved onto another bottle and I added another old fashioned just for good measure.
Food A

The service has never really thrilled me all that much here and this trip did nothing to change this thought. In past experiences it has kind of been the chaos as well as the slow service that got to me, but tonight I guess we were sitting in the perfect area, so the craziness of the staff did not really bother me. It was 25 to 30 minutes from the time we were seated until we had a drink at the table. It also just seemed to take quite a long time between drink delivery and our guy coming to take our food order.

This is one of our neighborhood go-to places (Lola's is the other). I think we get the same thing every time, french onion soup, cheese & pate platter, and the hanger steak. However, the service is always, how should I say, French? They really don't seem to care that you are there or what you want, but I think that is part of what makes the experience.

Tilefish is not lemon fish. Cobia is lemon fish.

Cobia is Lemon Fish, and also Ling, but not used in these parts very often.
