Austin's Tonight

Post by sbu22 »

GF taking me to Austin's for dinner. Looked at some late 08 posts that were mixed reviews, at best. Anyone have good suggestions for entrees? Heard the "crabmeat Austin" is a good bet for an app. Thanks

I had a stuffed softshell crab there that was too much, but pretty good. I like the place.

Appreciate the response buzd. Report as follows:

App was the Crabmeat Austin - simple but very good - lump crab over basic greens over asparagus - the (mayo based?) dressing makes it a standout.

She had onion soup - good but not great. I had a cup of seafood gumbo that was outstanding - very dark and viscous.

Entrees - She had crab au gratin - excellent, but so rich the two of us couldn't finish it. I ordered veal Austin - good but not a standout - paneed veal topped with crab, mushrooms, and green onions.

The real standout was a "special" creole salad - big, ripe tomato slices over green with mozzarrela, and a near perfect balsamic dressing. We split one - resulting in two pasta dish size servings.

Portions were large, service was great, atmosphere nice. the problems related in the late 08 comments were not apparent last night. Worth a shot if you're in Metairie looking for a nice dinner.
