Muriel's Reveillon Dinner

Post by In Vino Veritas »

We went to the Reveillon Dinner at Muriel's last Saturday night. Quick Review.

~ Appetizer ~

Oyster Pan Roast
Awesome. Oysters could be addicting.

Duck confit and pumpkin risotto
Highlight of the meal. Not to discount the entres, which were great, but this is the only duck in the city that can rival Besh's Restaurant August dish. And on Saturday night it won...

~ Salad ~

These were ok, about as good as a salad gets. Nothing more to write about them.

~ Entre ~

WOOD GRILLED VEAL CHOP
served on rock shrimp cornbread stuffing finished with an oyster mushroom and crab ragout

Excellent veal dish, very tender, great flavor. The crab ragout could stand on its own. A very large portion - looking forward to the leftovers this week.

SEAFOOD “BAYOU-BAISSE”
gulf shrimp, oyster and redfish simmered in a rich crab-tarragon broth with roasted tomatoes, leeks, new potatoes, fennel and peppers served with grilled cayenne french bread

Don't get me wrong, this was very good. Nothing particularly "Reveillon" about it other than seafood ingredients; could have been on menu any night of the year. Overall I thought this fell a bit below par, partially due to the undersized shrimp.

~ Dessert ~

Creme Brulee
Very good, as expected with creme brulee. Nice option.

Bread Pudding
Spectacular. I almost didn't order it thinking it would be too similar to the million other bread pudding's I've had. The waiter talked me into it and I was glad. Not sure how they do it, but Muriel's has found a rare edge on the most common dessert in the city.

Well, we had a wonderful meal there. Hope you all are enjoying the same.

Cheers,

I'm guessing that you've never had any of Frank Brigtsen's duck dishes...

I have tried these, which are delicious also. Not putting down any other dishes - only giving some well known comparisons. I've loved every meal of Brigsten's.

I love Muriel's. It is one of my go to places. Never let me down, and yes, the pain perdu bread pudding is about the best in the city.
