Byblos Lunch
Went to Byblos on Vets for lunch. We each had the specials-- Mrs. Slow the kafta/chicken kabob combo, and I the lamb shank. Both very good. I had had the combo before, but the lamb shank was da bomb. Served over peas and diced carrots in a tomato-ey gravy laced with aromatic spice, the shank was fall-off-the-bone tender, and a nice portion to boot. I'm not as big a fan of the kafta as the Mrs, but I tasted the kabob, and it was delicious as usual. Great lunches for $11 each.

I always enjoy Byblos.
We went to Parran's today so we could sit outside, we had our puppy with us.

Two things I go nuts for over there are the Eggplant and Crab Cake and the Mousaka. Just incredible. The eggplant cake has this incredible flavor and is fried crispy around the edges with the crabmeat sauce on top. The mousaka, interestingly enough, seems very New Orleansy to me. It's basically eggplant and vegetables baked in a red sauce that, as a New Orleanian, I would call "red gravy." It's really good comfort food.

It's the first time I've noticed it. Mrs. thinks she's seen it before. They do the chicken kabob and kafta often. They seem to have a lentil soup regularly, as well, that's quite a bit more filling than one would expect. And yes, that mousaka is good stuff-- there are chick peas, roasted red pepper, and whole cloves of garlic in it.Isabella Maja wrote:Do they have Lamb Shank every day?

I think the Veteran's store has the best food of any of their places. Just returned from a trip to the Holy Land and longed for Byblos' food.
