Bacco lobster tasting?

Post by josemama »

Anyone tried bacco's lobster and champagne tasting menu? Thinking of trying it out this weekend. Can't really go wrong with lobster and champagne:)

I am looking for some feedback on this also. I was looking at the Bacco 5 course or the GW Fins 3 course lobster dinner for $39. Taking the bride out for a special night and I know she likes lobster.

Also considering just ignoring the lobster aspect and doing Gautreau's, which neither of us have visited yet.

Well, I just booked the Bacco five course deal for next Saturday. It is our 11th anniversary and she likes lobster.
Just based on the food alone, I don't think they could manage to mess than up too bad. Should be a good night.
Haven't decided yet to get the champagne or not.

If she loves bubbly, do it! Happy Anniversary, baby!:toast:

I keep talking about going....maybe I should bump your reservation up to 3....or would that be wrong? LOL

I wouldn't even think about doing it without the Champagne pairing, just sounds like too much fun.

That didn't end so well the last time we decided to try for the three person date.
Maybe you and I can just meet earlier that day at a bar to watch LSU kick Georgia's ass.

I don't "get" Gautreaus. Only been once, perhaps an off night. The food was bland beyond belief with platings that just didn't work. We usually give a rest. several tries but, I'd rather not waste another meal here.

We went to the surf and sparkle on Saturday night. It was a fun, extravagant feeling date night that we really enjoyed. I'd give the concept a 10 but the execution about 6.5.

First course was a lobster bisque that was very good, the unceremonious dollop of marscapone truffle butter took it up another notch.

Second course was their signature lobster ravioli with caviar. Best dish of the night, 2 ravioli with a small claw between them and a nice serving of red and black caviar. Nice presentation and decadently rich. This was paired with the same veuve clicquot as the first course which I thought was a little lazy on their part

Next was the salad course which was a total disaster. It had a small tempura fried claw that was marginal at best, the coating kind of fell off the meat leaving you with a hunk of batter and a hunk of claw meat. The salad lacked texture and flavor and was bland. Paired with a rose.

Fourth course was butter poached lobster with wild mushroom risotto. Lobster was overcooked to the point of being mushy with just a hint of texture in the middle. The risotto was perfect, creamy and earthy with a little bite to the rice. They had a beautiful selection of wild mushrooms on top that unfortunately lacked any discernible flavor. (I'm thinking they were dried and re hydrated) Paired with a select veuve clicquot that was fabulous.

Dessert was a strawberry shortcake for lack of a better term. The pastry was interesting in the fact that it was thick but dissolved immediately in your mouth when you ate it. My DC likened it to cotton candy which was a perfect description. It was unfortunately as sugary sweet as cotton candy also.

I hope this report was not too long or too negative, as we had fun, It just wasn't perfect food, and I've been watching too much iron chef and top chef lately!!!!
