Bacco Report

Last Wednesday my wife and decided to have dinner at Bacco before going see White Noise at La Petite. With the show being at 7:30, we made reservations for 5:30. Both of us work on the southshore and got off work early so we ended up going to Bacco around 4:30 and having wine at the bar until dinner time. Before 6, all the wines are 1/2 price so we each enjoyed a few glasses and the bartender's (I think his name was Eric) company. There were a few other people there, but it was pretty quiet which is not at all surprising at such an early time. We ended up sitting down for dinner about 5:45, and being served by a couple of women weirdos (late twenties) who didn't seem all that happy about life. When they would meet up on the floor and talk about their tables, they would do it one inch from each others faces and loud enough so all could hear. Strange to say the least.

We ended up both doing the 3-course special for $25, me starting with the lemon parmesan salad which I thought was nice and perfect for Summer. It's basically a couple of Romaine leaves with grape tomatoes and a creamy lemon-vinaigrette with a few shavings of parmesan cheese. My wife had the corn and crab soup (which she can never pass up) and thought it was great.

For entree, I had the Bacco shrimp which were very good as always. I could order a side of this sauce and eat it as a soup. Wife had the pork tenderloin, which she thought was good, but nothing more.

Dessert for my wife was the bread pudding, which she enjoyed. I had the satsuma-dreamsicle sorbet which I though was good, although quite bitter.

All in all it was a good meal, and a steal for the price. The special menu has the two entrees we had, plus the lobster ravioli. The servers were pretty indifferent, and didn't seem to care much about anything, but the bartender was great and a pleasure to drink with. The 1/2 price wine BTG was nice too. Another annoying thing, though kind of funny, was the fact that the manager crop dusted our table at least three times. We didn't appreciate that freebie.

Fourteen years ago before I got married the priest that was to do my wedding took me out for dinner at Bacco. We had been friends for a while, and I had just asked him to perform the ceremony. When we were seated I noticed that the room we were in was filled exclusively with parties of two...males. I saw females in the restaurant, just not in the room where we were. Ever since then I joke about being seated in the gay room at Bacco. I sometimes wonder what was worse, me noticing or Bacco for sequestering us.

I have had great meals at Bacco but have also had a few mediocre ones as well. The worst was a bday lunch a few years ago where I had to write out my complaints on the back of my credit card receipt.

I do think the lobster ravioli is still a great dish. Never get tired of eating it.

i am thinking of doing the $25 menu thi weekend. what does the gassy manager look like? if that m.f'er farts in my face i am going to drag him over to rawhide for a bukakke party.
