City Diner - My First Visit

Post by Jerry »

We went in for lunch last week.
Service was very good and freindly.

We were seated at a window booth that may have been retained since Dennys....For me it was not comfortable - The seat seemed too low...maybe the seat cusion was weak...the table seemed too high and too close. Next time I would choose a table/chairs or counter seat.

We got the onion rings...very good but too much cajun spice.
My lovely and talented companion got the eggplant/blackened tomato app for lunch and it was good but tasted too much like the cajun spice on the onion rings.

I got the Thai Ribs. I'm a big fan of Zea's Thai Ribs. City Diners' were very good...not the baby back ribs (if that's what they use?) of Zea's but seemed like the 3 and Down type I used to get from Morrell for my restaurant. They were good although a touch dry...could have used a bit more of that good sauce.
I hope I'm not being too critical...the food was above average of similar type places around Metairie. I'm just spoiled by my own cooking I guess.

I thought the place looked very good..clean and organized. I was impressed with the whisper quiet cordless vacuum used to clean up after a bunch of sloppy men diners.

Overall I think this place has a great future and I have to applaud them for a 24/7 operating schedule.
Appeard to me that the staff was dedicated and sincere - a plus ( and reqirement) for any good business these days.
I look forward to trying breakfast!!
Just back off on the cajun spice a bit :toast:

Jerry, that being spoiled by your own cooking is a good thing. I certainly am. although I still enjoy a good meal out. But as I have written on this board, I rarely order beef in a restaurant, because I do so much better than most restaurant in the preperation of beef.
