I had time to browse a bit at Whole Foods today.
I've been shopping there since they opened (Vets) and today I finally found the bulk spice nook.
Checking the prices of little jars of spices on the grocery shelves, I knew there must be an alternative.
I go to WF for bulk rice, grains, sliced almonds, etc but today I found the bulk spices - at the end of the aisle marked spices near the meats - a small bookshelf with glass jars and large plastic containers of common spices like oregano, cumin, cloves, cinnamon and specialty salts.
A jar's worth of oregano was about $1 and a ample little bag of dill about 50 cents.
I found a really good smoked salt that I used today on grilled ginger/garlic chicken.
Ther is a scale there to approximate your purchase - a 1 lb. scale in ounce increments...but, BEWARE!
When you get to the checkout - watch the weights coming up on the register.
Today I was charged about double or more on everything - especially the very light weight items...that register's scale was way off.
I had to go to customer service and have everything re-weighed.

I order my spices in bulk from penzeys.com They have a large selection, high quality, good prices, quick shipping. Pendereys.com offers a large variety of whole and ground chilis. Again, good prices/shipping.
