Charlie's

Post by bam bam »

This place is really hitting its stride. The cuts of beef are fantastic, they are cooked to perfection. The upgrades to the decor, wine list and a fantastic array of single malt scotches and bourbons really have added a new dimension to the Charlie's experience. I am still not a fan of the wedge salad but I think it is mandatory to get some type of vegetable at a meal.

I am still a fan of the "real" Charlie's, though the new version sounds great. The "real" Charlie's for me has always been an equal combination of the place, the food, the people, the personalities. That was a truly unique restaurant. I still remember my first visit to Charlie's when I was twelve years old. My Uncle Ted the attorney took me there after the Boat Show at the Superdome. I remember thinking to myself "What the hell are we doing in this neighborhood, this must be an Uncle Ted joke." I remember fleetingly taking offense when I was not allowed to order a large steak.

I too long for the "real Charlie's" where if you were lucky you could avoid any of the lead based paint peeling off the wall from falling on to your steak.
