Rivershack Lunch Specials

Post by edible complex »

I've never had the same special twice, as there is always something new and different everything I go to lunch to Rivershack. Three yrs later, I'm still begging for and would kill for a return of the Thai Bouillabaisse.
But today...geez...he really outdid himself with the Stuffed Bread of Shrimp, Crawfish and Tasso. Chock full of creamy goodness w/a light pepper kick on the back end. (no impure thoughts intended, though it was food porn for the soul)
What I wouldn't give to have them sell this heavenly hot pocket at Jazz Fest instead of that mess of crawfish or shrimp bread that stales in comparison.

What are some of the other specials he does? I remember hearing that he is very good at the one or two specials that he puts out.
Last time I went, I just ended up with the burger, but it was pretty damn good also.

I had lunch there yesterday. I tried the soup of the day which was a shrimp in a fennel broth. It was very tasty but I don't think I'm as big a fan of fennel as I thought.

I LOVE the buffalo chicken salad and happily devoured that after the soup.:p

the red beans on Mondays are very good. I had them w/grilled chicken but next time I'm doing the sausage. I've had his gumbo, which is also tasty. I remember a coconut curried fish dish that sold out while I was ordering. though not a special, my faves are the seafood platter, buffalo oysters and the debris roast beef po poy. today's soup was fiery jalapeno corn and crawfish soup.
RTD, the soup yesterday sounded amazing, but then I again I could eat fennel daily.

His cassoulet back in the winter was outstanding......and I had a Japanese inspired fish over black sticky rice dish that was memorable. Thai crab soup too.....I could go on.........

I'm a fan, as well.

Be advised the place fills up fast. The doors open at 11:30 if I recall. You would be wise to be there at 11:30. Otherwise, you'll be eating elbow to elbow with others at the bar, if that.

"Open 7 Days a Week - 11 a.m. 'til

and yes, it does fill up fast at lunch.
