Abita Satsuma Wheat

Has anyone had this and can you tell me what it is like? Any good?

Turbodog - can you let me know when this is supposed to be bottled? I have a source here in Tampa that tells me that he will be one of the only (or few) people in the area and is slated to get a pallet of it. If so, then I need to get the jump and buy a case.

Until you wrote this I didn't know it existed. I got to investigating and came across this on the brewmeister's blog.

Then I did a search for the product on Abita's site to find out who might be carrying it. It came back with '0' results. Perhaps Turbo may have more info.

I like how Abita is constantly brewing new stuff. Not a fan of wit beer but I would try 1.

I think it will be out in June, afterthe Strawberry Harvest runs its course., It will be part of that harvest series, with the strawberry and pecan.

I have not had it, but I hear it is very good (if you like that style). We tested it with a batch of contract brew done as corporate Christmas gifts for a NO Law Firm (they do a custom brew each year for Christmas gists to their clients).

We don't answer Lazy Magnolia. I wish them luck, but we are a leader, not a follower.

Still miss the Abita Blueberry from years ago - apparently made as a one-off to support / celebrate the Covington Blueberry Festival. I s'pose both are long-gone, eh?

Cool, thanks for the info. Unfortunately we're finished with our allotment of Strawberry here in Florida, but I think my dad has a case for me in Hammond, as soon as I can arrange delivery. I pretty much went around Tampa buying up the last of it and the distributor told me they couldn't get any more.

In the meantime, my wife and her friend brewed a pretty darn good Strawberry Ale that we just bottled a couple weeks back. I helped with the recipe formulation and it came really close to the Abita version, but just a little more bitter (for now).

Looking forward to the Satsuma Wit. Not a big fan of the Belgian Wit style because of the spices, but I have a feeling coming from Abita it will be a super drinkable beer. Can't wait!

Bam, Abita is a good brewery. But you need some educating if you think they are cutting edge.

Hey Guy, Dogfish Head is a very cool company, and I like most of teir brews I have tried.

They are from the northeast, Abita is from the southeast. Perhaps if Abita was in the NE, they would be more "progressive"? Then again, if DFH were from the SE (the land of Bud Light), perhaps they wouldn't have had to be so "radical" to get noticed, and would be a more "conservative" company today.

Nonetheless, two good companies, trying to peacefully co-exist in the new age.

Turbo, I'm a big fan of yalls beers, but I must admit I didn't think I would like the Strawberry. I was wrong. Very good brew.
