Crawfish were horrible. Worst spice mix ever. Oyster po boy was actually good. Not a fan of the cheese fries. I think the galley is calling my name.

I don't know if it was ever really consistently good or not. In my time living in the city, I probably ate there about ten times. Five times were really pretty good - I remember them having some excellent fried oysters, fried chicken and the like. The other times were not very good, except the very last time I went there with a buddy who just had to have crawfish and wanted to go there. That was a pretty good meal - would've been about four or five years ago I think.

I love both of their properties for nostalgia and cold beer. I try to avoid eating there these days.

My go-to fried seafood place is Bozo. I rate their catfish as the best in town and the oysters second only to Casamento's. Plus, I think it's a more comfortable space to dine in than the Galley. I guess when the average age of your clientele is 70 years old, you need to provide enough space between tables for walkers, wheel chairs and oxygen tanks.

Bozo's is good but no boiled seafood and it is in Metairie.

I had lunch at the Galley yesterday...then 3 hours later came down with the flu and got to have my lunch all over again.... It was much better the first time.

To me this place has been notoriously disgusting...both the food and the attitudes. Last time that place saw water on the floor was probably Katrina.

F&J's hit their peak in the early 70s and have gone steadily downhill since.

Before the storm Camelia Grill was the same way, never swept. If your open all day you need to clean all day. F & J's just need to leave the 70's and realize what decade they are in. No, you can't serve your "Sysco" tuna salad with a large ice cream scoop, just make your own, and you don't need the scoop. Sysco has gotten better since the 70's btw, but. F&J's should raise the bar just a little and catch up with the times. I would go there all the time if they did.
