Margarite's Cakes in Slidell is some of the best cake I've ever had. And also Zoe's in Covington.

I'm sure everybody has their favorite!

To me, Hands down, Swiss Confectionery. For traditional N.O. Cake, silver almond cake, buttercream icing or pineapple or raspberry filling, and they do the "poured" or "cooked" icing, the kind on petite fours. My family has been getting cakes from there for 45+ years...........

I have not tried these, but my daughter goes to Dominican and the information has been verified by the school. It would be going for a good cause.
YMMV

Subject: Erin's Beautiful Cakes

I was given a business card from my mother for a young girl this weekend who has started a cake company. As I appreciate it, Erin is 14 a year old student at Dominican. Her brother is autistic and her father was recently diagnosed with Alzheimer's and lost his job. To help take care of her family she and her mother have begun baking cakes.

If anyone is planning on buying a cake, this young girl is doing a truly remarkable thing and could use some help. They do any type of cake in all shapes and sizes and they are very good. She also will deliver anywhere in the city.

Her contact information is:

You definitely can't go wrong with Swiss.

Haydel's is another great choice, they actually did my wedding cakes and they were wonderful.

I have just received an update/correction on the information I submitted regarding Erin's Cakes. I apologize for the inaccuracies. Erin does, in fact, bake cakes, but not for the reasons in the original posting. The factual info as included in the PM sent to me, is as follows:

"I called Brother Roger at DHS this morning to see if we could do anything further to help this family. So He then talked to Erin's mom today (4/8/09) and she said she is hoping that this email will stop circulating around. She is embarassed about all of this. Her husband did not get laid off, he retired.

"The information is correct" line below evidently, according to Brother Roger, refers to the fact that yes, the girl is a freshman at DHS, and yes, her brother has autism and her father has Alzheimer's. However, Erin started baking cakes a while back and it was NOT because her family needed help financially, it was because she wanted some spending money. Her mom is employed and they are doing fine. Her mom told Brother Roger that she is "mortified" that this email is circulating and she has gotten lots of calls and wishes this had never started.

I told Brother Roger that I would contact you all and ask you to spread the revised information. So if you have forwarded this email on to other people, can you please send them this update. Tell them that if they, in turn, had forwarded the original email, to please forward the update also."

I second Haydels, especially for wedding cakes.
I have a friend who keeps me informed about alot of the stuff in the wedding industry and it is so disturbing on how many mistakes are made with several of the cake companies regarding weddings. I am not talking minor stuff, either. I am talking of totally forgetting deliveries, showing up late, having the wrong cake, etc.
Doesn't happen with Haydels though.

Swiss is probably my favorite place as far as taste.
