I've got one left. I used one in a marinade for salmon. Creole Mustard, soy, rice vinegar, evoo, orange peel, chives, brown sugar. I reduced the marinade and it made a great sauce.

Yeah, I think the Indian Summer is their standard beer like Abita Amber. It is a quality product but not a mind blowing experience. Looking forward to the southern pecan.

I haven't tried the Indian Summer. I normally don't care for spiced beers. Maybe I'll give this one a shot.

I have been drinking the Southern Pecan. I first tried it at the YES Beer Fest and liked it quite a bit. So I was excited when I saw the brewery gained a foothold in NO. I have to say, though, I haven't been thrilled with it so far. It seems confused and inconsistent. And every one I've had, on tap and in bottles, has been strangely flat in terms of carbonation. I hope they get it together.

On a related note, I want to put in a good word for Ms. Mae's/The Club on Magazine and Napoleon. I hadn't been in many years but recently stopped in when I read they were carrying NOLA Brewing's Brown Ale. They really are the best spot for good, local beer sold cheap. The Brown is $3 a pint and $9 a pitcher. The Abita Strawberry is $2.25 and Lazy Magnolia is $2 a bottle. Incredibly low prices compared to other bars that often charge twice as much. Another nice perk is you get to watch the Hornets games with Ms. Mae and Ms. Mae's beehive.

Actually Southern Pecan is Lazy Magnolia's "standard." They just started bottling the Indian Summer. Great brew. I went to a beer dinner a month or two ago and they have some other really delicious beers that will be forthcoming in bottles.

That is exactly what I thought about it. There just wasn't much going on with the beer. I will have to give the Indian Summer a chance.

I have had and enjoyed the Southern Pecan. I bought a party pig (disposable mini keg) of it a while back.

They recently began a distribution agreement in Louisiana with AB distributors, so they are getting a good push from distributors with some influence in the market. They have been agressivly going after Abita Amber taps.

There are many difficulties facing upstart (startup?) brewers.

The problems with the bottled product (flatness, oxidation, etc.) are problems all small brewers have to deal with. New bottling equipment is very expensive (prohibitively so for most start ups) and used bottling equipment is tempremental and difficult to keep operating properly.

I wish them luck, as I do with NOLA Brewing. Abita is not the only metro area company to try its hand at the beer brewing business. Abita is the only one to have lasted. A healthy craft market in this are would possibly get more drinkers of american "crap" beer drinking "real" beer, and be good for all craft brewers.

BTW, I had a bottle of Abita Chocolate Stout (not available in the marketplace) yesterday and one Saturday. Fabulous brew. I only have about a case left (of 3), so I am savoring every bottle.
