Cafe East Disappointment

Post by Jesse »

Had a late lunch/early dinner at Cafe East today (got there at 3).

After being sat, we waited 10 minutes before someone came to the table to take our drink order. While aggravating, not a huge deal. I ordered a glass of wine, and my 8.5 month pregnant wife ordered an iced tea. The stupid ass waitress proceeded to give my wife a hard time for not wanting alcohol. WTF??? After pointing out the obvious, she got the picture and got our drinks.

We ordered their appetizer sampler, which was crab rangoon, ribs, dumplings and crawfish eggrolls. Rangoon-not good. It was very greasy and had very little filling. Everything else was pretty damn good though, so no complaints.

Both of us had the chicken fire pot soup. It arrived via delivery of another waitress, an older asian woman who seemed genuinely pissed off. She splashed soup all over the table and us as she poured it in the bowl. To top it off, the fried wontons they brought out were wet. Yes, wet. The bottom of the bowl had water in it and some other substance. When pointed out to our waitress, she tells us that it was "probably dishwater." Well then, that makes it OK. Soups were very good nonetheless.

I had the Soy-Ginger Duck which was advertised as a boneless half duck, and came out as a bone in whole duck. It was good, and came with zucchini, mushrooms and asparagus. Wife had a salad which she thought was OK.

At one point during the meal, my wife pointed out that of the four plates on the table, three of them were badly chipped. She was right. With their cheap ass white plates, you would think they wouldn't send that s**t to the table.

The best part was the fact that the restaurant was in fact an old folks home, with the other 7 tables in the restaurant all being over 70. One old couple was so pissed about the slow service, I swear they were gonna hop a shuttle to Biloxi.

Food was still very good though, but they need to stop the madness.

Gosh you're patient. I went there once and wasn't impressed enough to go back, but if I had to go through all that, I would have walked out.
Now this is more like it.
