Gulfport/Biloxi Recommendations?

Post by Jesse »

I'll be in Gulfport for a week, and I'll have some opportunities to go to dinner most nights. Is there anywhere worth seeking out, or should I stay at the Casinos?

I will be taking Nanette's recommendation and checking out the Hard Rock at least a few nights ;)

Any thoughts? Thanks!

If you're looking for a little get away check out The Shed for some good BBQ at very reasonable prices. I don't know their schedule but there's often live music too. It's not fine dining but very good comfort food.

I liked Vrazells alot when I went down there. It is in Gulfport.
Alot of people push Mary Mahoneys pretty hard in Biloxi, but it didn't do it for me. Seemed like some kind of over priced Galatoires wanna be or something. Def. a nice looking place and if atmosphere is your thing, give it a try.

You gotta be ****ting me! EAC, I have a ton of respect for your recs but you just dropped down a peg with that one. The Shed has to be the most overhyped, overpriced, most ridiculous excuse for a restaurant this side of Bennigan's. From the whole "how the shed works" to the 5.00 for half a plastic cup of beer to the mediocre sauce to the brisket with the texture of baby food, the shed is the single biggest clusterf-ck of a restaurant I have ever had the misfortune of dining at.

I stand by my rec. Perhaps you missed my post about The Shed previously. I want there based on recs from others, and please don't drop them a peg. I'll take all the blame. :D Here's my comments:

Lunch - Our first stop was The Shed in Ocean Springs, Ms. on Hwy. 57. Definitely an interesting place. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich plate (2 sides) and my wife ordered the beef brisket sandwich plate. Both of us got potato salad and slaw as our sides. Lots of meat...lots... moist, and tender. I liked the pork better, she liked her brisket. The sauce was a little sweet for me but still good. After hitting it with some crystal hot sauce it was just right. Both plates came with 2 sides. Plates with two sodas for $20. Excellent recommendation. Thanks

And if you care to see who rec'd the place look here:

As I said, it's not fine dining but a good value.

So... did I drop another peg? :toast:

Cross the beautiful new Bay St. Louis bridge and eat at Sycamore House in Bay St. Louis. Very good.

EAC,

I apologize for being unduly harsh. I was a little drunk when I read your post.

Explain to me how $29.99 for a full rack of ribs is a good value?

not having been there or know what else in the hood...but call it supply and demand. kinda like walking on the beach dying of thirst and the beer guy is selling beer at $8 a bottle. there's no other beer in sight and camels are crossing your tongue...he's got the supply and you've got the demand.

Bam bam,

$30 for a rack is absolutely not a good value, unless it's really a full rack and comes with nice legs and involves several songs and a lap. I hope that explains it sufficiently. So lets just say that my two sandwiches with two sides each for $20 were a good value... for me.

I live in Pass Christian and can personally recommend these restaurants. Never have been a fan of Mary Mahoney's, but that's just my opinion.

Bay St. Louis: Sycamore House

and Ricky's on Hwy 90

Pass Christian: Old Cuevas Bistro Menge

Gulfport: Vrazel's
