This week the stars are going to line up just right and I will be able to meet my wife in B.R. for one night. We'll both be there on business and will share a room (hahahaha - we're gonna pretend we're having an out of town fling) and are looking for recs on where to go for dinner. Last time this happened we went to Mansur's on the Blvd. and it was excellent. One of us ordered the praying softshell crab and it was one of the best softshells I've ever had. And I don't say this lightly. My dad used to farm them. So I'm tempted to just go back there but am holding the options open.
I'm thinking maybe Juban's. Any other don't miss places?
TIA,
EAC

Re: Baton Rouge Recs
EAC, I'm sure my good neighbors Leo and Woody will contribute some more high-end choices, but if you kids happen to be out late-late -- or early-early -- keep LSU-area Louie's in mind for some good greasy hash browns and other such real-food delights.
For an funky field trip, run up Plank Road to Tony's Seafood. It's all to-go, but just watching the mixed masses ordering every thing in sight never fails to please my visitors. You can drive down the street for a cup of coffee at an original, pre-expansion Krispy Kreme shop.
If you dine at Juban's, wave - I live almost across the street.

Quick aside. Is your Krispy Kreme still going? Ours have all closed.
As John Wayne once said: "Life's tough. It's even tougher if you're stupid."

I'd definitely consider Juban's if you want to do fine dining--it's always delicious. On the lower end, I'm a sucker for Fleur de Lis pizza (partially out of taste, partially out of nostalgia).

Jubans and Mansuers (spelling) are the two best in town, in my opinion. Ruffino's is also pretty good.hungryone wrote:I'd definitely consider Juban's if you want to do fine dining--it's always delicious. and hungryone, I also love FDL pizza. I always thought it was for the taste, but maybe there is some nostagia attraction as well. Haven't had one in over a year. I need one (pepperoni, italian sausage and onions).
Re: Baton Rouge Recs
Juban's and Mansour's have been quite consistent over the years for us. We have also had good luck with Brandt's Maisonette, although I have read any number of other people who have posted problems with service, etc. When we've been, everything's been spot-on.
