Authentic Mexican/South American Places
Authentic Mexican/South American Places
Anyone been eating at any of these places lately that you find good? There is a new tiny little place on Veterans at the corner of Homestead that I went in and tried last night. The sign is in Spanish and says something about south American or central America. The specials were all written in Spanish, so I was forced to order off of the menu. I would have probably been out of luck with the whole translation thing if it were not for a family member of the staff who happened to have been there at the moment (but was about to leave) as she was the only one who could speak any English and it was pretty choppy to say the least.
I ended up trying to order tamales. At first I asked for 10, then quickly changed my mind when I saw they were $3 each. I ended up with four and these things were bigger than most of the burritos that you get at a normal place. The pork inside was quite tasty, but 90% of the thing was coating.
I also got three soft tacos that were very good, especially with the green sauce that came with them.
I would like to get more adventuresome, but this probably was not the place for me to try that. No alcohol on site.
There is a Taco San Miguel in Fat City that I visited a few weeks ago that I really enjoyed. It had a great topping bar that you get to use with whatever you order where you choose between different salsas/sauces/peppers, etc.

After Mon & Tues, even the calendar says W-T-F!

I like the one on Williams toward Treasure Chest, left hand side next to Ralph's Pool. Can't remember or pronounce the name, but I wrote about it a few months ago. Its authentic South American and Cuban.

Rincon something (used to be Garces)? Google says it's El Mescal at the old Garces address, but I don't remember it being that last time I passed by. It's been a couple months.

Rincon something is the name. I will have to pass by to see if they are still there. Yes, it is the old Garces building, but remember at one time Garces had two on Williams.

The place I'm thinking of is yellow with green roof and tacky icicle lights, if they're still up, next to the pool place. Glad I wasn't crazy thinking Rincon. Google says El Mescal is at that same address, 3809.

That place is becoming my second home!
I love that I have this wonderful restaurant around the corner from my home, but it's kinda undiscovered. We need more people to go there so they can stay in business!
Ask for Melissa as your waitress!

This place has a major following. I've never quite gotten the appeal, but the times I've tried it, I have felt the same way.edible complex wrote:I love this place, but always feel like "heavy starch, hang me" after.

Where on Terry Parkway is Taqueria Jalisco?
Did you ever get to eat at the Brazilian place that occupied the same location as Country Taste? It wasn't there long and I heard it was expensive for lunch because they charged by the pound...but people did say it was good.

I lurves me some Pupuseria Divino Corazon! I can't stop ordering yuca con chicarron and their Faro Del Pacifico.....a sampling of their menu items, including pupusa, pastel de carne, tamal de gallina and that fantastic pickled cabbage I can't remember the name of. Now that my eye doc has moved from Lakeview to Meadowcrest I get to enjoy Pupuseria Divino for lunch a bit more.Isabella Maja wrote:Pupuseria Divino Corazon on Belle Chasse Highway on the Westbank.....
