Bam Bam's Breakfast Tour--Where to Next?

Post by bam bam »

I still have on my list:

1) Blue Plate
2) Riccobono's
3) J'Anita's--if they would not stop serving breakfast before like 10:30.
4) Slim Goody's--despite my better judgment.
5) Garden's Edge

Any place I am missing?

Surrey's...
I have always avoided this place because I thought it was a hippy, granola, juice bar that only served smoothies and no breakfast meats. Maybe it was when I first went there in 1999, but now it is great. I tried it after a friend told me they have biscuits and gravy. I am constantly seeking quality biscuits and gravy in this town, and I am always deeply disappointed which seems odd given our locale. Even more shocking is the fact that most places don't even offer it.

Anyway, Surrey's B&G gets the thumbs up as does their tribute to breakfast meats...The Montana. An assortment of fresh squeezed juices is interesting, delicious, and expensive.

Bam, your omission or oversight of Surrey's is understandable given what I previously thought of it, but please add it to the list.

Not sure what you've hit already and what areas you are including/excluding, but here are some...

Peppermill in Metairie - part of the Riccobono clan, so probably no need to go to Met. if you're going to Panola St.

Cafe Freret on Freret

that place off Causeway/ W. Napoleon in the old Denny's we had a thread about

Bluebird Cafe - I haven't been there in a couple of years

Betsy's Pancake House on Canal (for a complete list)

Bagles and Lox at Il Posto (but it is way to fru-fru for you)

Petunia's, Clover Grill and Daisy Duke's if you're including the Quarter

FWIW, the Brown Derby on the corner of Jeff Davis and Tulane seems to be a beehvive of activity in the early morning

Why the interest in breakfast, did the girlfriend move out?

I have been to the Ruby Slipper, Huevos, Refuel, Surrey's and Stanley!.

The interest in breakfast comes from a time thing. I went six months slurpping cereal every morning. I figured since I have some time on my hands, I would explore.

EAT!
Petunias
Elizabeths
Huevos
Ruby Slipper
Cafe Rani
Tout de Suite in Algiers Point has fantatic Lox and Bagles....they also have a couple of old fellas that play the banjo on Sunday mornings!

We went to Blue Plate Saturday. I had the crawfish cakes with fried eggs and a crawfish cream sauce on top. I loved the eggs and sauce, but the crawfish cakes were just ok and I can't tell ya how many people have raved about them.

Please let me know how Garden's Edge is, as I have a certificate for them.

Though it's somewhat lacking in ambiance, Pontchartrain Point (formerly West End Cafe) does a surprisingly good breakfast on the weekends. The full bar is a bonus.
