Mark Twain Pizza

They were nice enough to send me a coupon for a free medium pizza for my birthday, so we paid them a visit tonight.
Pizza= Awesome
Buffalo wings= pretty good
seafood gumbo= ok

Kids running all over the place while one poor little waitress served every table in the place(with a little help from the owner)= my nerves being shot by the time we left

The place is usually crowded and we don't go that often. We do go sometimes after games at Pontiff Playground. Since it is mostly families, there are lots of kids but I can't say I usually see them running around. Must have been an off night I hope? Pizza is pretty good but sometimes the middle is not baked enough. Never had the wings or gumbo.

I felt that since they were giving me a pizza I should order a few other things. They have two appetizers, which were wings, so the pickings were slim.

I may have been exagerating about kids running around because it was mainly one table who let their two run loosely. When they finally stayed at the table I look up and one of them is standing on her chair touching all of the pictures on the wall and such.
No big deal. I just usually end up stopping in to pick up to go orders from here because it always seems like they are short front of the house help and it is crazy in there.

I agree re: craziness. Wait staff has always been a problem, even before it was sold. When we go, we go with extended family or a group of friends with kids so I probably overlook all the craziness. We always see people we know so it's a social atmosphere. I can't say we go often with just the immediate fam. They do a good business, but it always seems when we want to go there it is on the days they are closed.

And I understand wanting to order a few things other than your free pizza. Food coupons make me uncomfortable so my bday pizza usually goes unclaimed. I much prefer the mystery discount contests in the newsletter.

I've always liked the place, ever since the original owner opened it up to the present. The "Mysterious Stranger" pizza is my favorite, a spinach pizza with your choice of Canadian Bacon or chaurice, choice of veggie (mine is artichoke hearts) and a liberal dose of feta cheese! As to the problem Praline had with the half-baked center of the large pizzas, Cathy Campanella (Author of "Metairie" and webmaster of the Mr. Lake Forums) and her hubby suggest ordering the next smaller size. It has worked for me! I really liked that sandwich the few times I have had it.
I have been stuck on going to the Pizza Shop by my house, but that pizza last night is going to get me back to Mark Twain again soon for to go.
Also, Brooklyn Pizza has opened a little satallite shop near my house. Need to hit them up again soon.

BTG, where is the Brooklyn satellite? I have admired them since those awful post Katrina days when we would give them our business in their trailer operating in the parking lot of Rouse's. We went often and would even catch them closed because they had to drive to MS for the day to pick up supplies. We would leave them a note on the trailer saying we would be back the next day and to keep on going! I admired their entrepeneurial spirit so much. Don't get there as much since they moved out of the neighborhood. Between my new career and grad school in the evenings, dinners out are few and far between and usually clse by the house.

Jeeves, love the Mysterious Stranger pizza but please leave the protein off of mine, LOL. I'm not a vegetarian by any means but I prefer the vegetables. My Mom and I share a small one with spinach, artichokes, feta and white sauce. Everyone else feasts on pepperoni and sausage.

BTG, where is the Brooklyn satellite?

It is near Vets and Bonnebal. There is a drive through convienance store that is on the lake site of Vets two blocks toward causeway from Bonnabel. Brookly is operating in the back half of the store.
