We went to the Asada Night at La Boca on Monday night.
I'm hoping our table will chime in on reporting what a great meal we had.
I'm afraid, however, we are all still too full to report!
Isa, I was hoping you or one of the others at our table would do the honors because I'm just not well-schooled enough to describe everything. But here is my half hearted, middle of the night attempt... :)

Our meal at LaBoca was $45 per person, but that didn't include drinks or wine. The tables were set up in groups of six. It so happened that our party had six in the reservations, but if there were two, for example, they were seated at a table with four others...

It was a steak lovers dream come true. And while I'm not a steak lover, (that is, it's not something I order first, but enjoy the meat when it's well prepared), I loved it all. I'm not well versed enough culinarily-speaking, to describe everything, I was hoping some of the others in our party would do that.

There was a chilled appetizer plate on each table to start with that included roasted peppers, artichoke hearts a spanish cold cut, and other things that I can't remember. Several appetizers followed that, empanadas, gnocchi, a pasta with red sauce and sausage, (I'm forgetting several somethings), then we were given a LARGE plate which we took outside to the front where Adolpho and Josh were grilling everything under the sun. Several types of steak, lamb, pork, ribs, two types of sausage, mushrooms and eggplant, sweetbreads, another organ meat that I can't think of the name of... lol..... I know I'm forgetting something.

A couple of large bowls of beautiful salad and two baskets of french fries awaited us at the table.

It was a wonderful night, I really enjoyed myself, and the food was excellent.

Now please someone, fill in the gaps here! :)

I think we were actually the only table of 6, and that was due to our reservation for 6. Others were set up according to their reservation as far as I could tell.

Jared and Adolpho were manning the outdoor grills and looked like they were having a good time. Well, Chef Jared did inhale enough smoke to last him a lifetime or two, but other than that they looked like they enjoyed the evening as much as we all did.

The first plate to come out, right at 7 when the event started was seranno ham, marinated artichoke hearts, green olives, roasted peppers...something you would normally see at Rio Mar. Very nice, very good.
Then we got the meat pies, bread, then pastas (gnocci and baked rigatoni with meat sauce). We went out for our meats and were treated back at the table with fries and salads. There was PLENTY of food.

Outside on the grills were a little of everything. Skirt (skin on and regular) and flap steak, leg of lamb, chicken, pork sausage, blood sausage, a couple types of ribs (not sure what I didnt have room to try them), heart, tongue, rocky mountain oysters...mushrooms, green onions, eggplant...later on there was NY strip which was freaking amazing but I was too full to enjoy.

This was a really fun Monday night out with Friends. They had a special Argentine bottle of wine for $40 that evening. It was a nice smooth wine but honestly I don't remember a thing about it. It went well with the evening. Well, except for the glass JudiB wore....Our table had several spilled glasses...only one was red wine though. Guess we talk with our hands when they don't have forks in them! lol

Sounds fanastic. I'm so sorry I couldn't make this one. I hope they do it again!

JAG, I thought the tables were six... only because when we came in there was a couple ahead of us that were being seated with a group of four. (they didn't know each other, but had a pleasant discussion about the meal and getting to know one another, etc) They are the ones behind you, seated by the open door/window. My back was to the room, so I just figured they grouped everyone in sixes. :)

Thanks for the great explanation! Everything was delicious, and add to that the wonderful company. I really enjoyed meeting j, and it was great to see Isa's fdc again. :)

and to top it all off, we had dessert. We thought we were too full to eat it, but I, for one, managed to eat my share.

Two desserts actually... one lovely dark fudgey thing, and one leche cream thing on a small cookie ... arrrrrgh....

(teehee... aren't my descriptions terrific??)

Everything was sooo good. Including the terrific company! :)

Desserts were a Flourless Chocolate Cake & a Dulce de Leche topped cookie that was somewhat shortbread like. Both were delicious and just the right amount . . . . there was no way that we could have eaten a full sized dessert after all of those wonderful courses.

My favorite was the chocolate one - I usually like Dulce de Leche with something creamy, not cakey - but it was still very good!

And FWIW . . . .
I made my reservations the day I got the email notice.
I thought it was for March 9, not Feb 9 & planned on taking a very important colleague to this dinner minutes after he stepped off of his plane. I think this was the Wed (or a week before that) before the dinner actually happened on Feb 9. (I am in the midst of Katrina repairs so sometimes the days/dates run into each other, forgive me if that is the case).

The next night, Thurs, Jag and some of my other DCs had dinner at La Boca. That's when I realized my dates were incorrect . . . darn, and I had already told my colleague about it and how I was going to take him there for his birthday - which when I finally told him a couple of days ago it wasn't going to happen - it went over like a lead balloon. I digress.

So, when Jag said, "Wanna go & we better make reservations fast . . . I said, "It is already handled!" A day or so later I added to the reservation & I got the last 2 spots. At that point it was moot. Well, moot to actually getting a reservation.

AMEN! Thank you for saying that Isa. Sometimes you just can't catch a break here, damned if you do... damned if you don't.

Holy sh*t, get over it! No one around here holds any responsibility to keep anyone else informed about anything going on around the city. If they want to post about somewhere they're going, cool. If they don't, I for one am glad to hear about their experiences. And the way some weirdos seem to be acting lately, I'm not sure I'd want to post where I was going to be at a specific time and place. Get over it. Get on a mailing list, but please, get off of people's balls!

Bear, Judi, BamBam, Isa, JAG keep the reports coming!
