Vicky Bayley might have a new place on/near the lake..

Post by BTG »

on the northshore? I know I read somewhere a few weeks ago that she is going to be opening a place with a somewhat known chef. Does anyone know about this?

Honestly it seems to be that since her and Besh parted ways at Artesia, she has done nothing but fail at her restaurant attempts.

it's the old Bechac's location that Alex Patout previously operated. the permits were applied for about a month ago.
After Mon & Tues, even the calendar says W-T-F!

I have a total TMZ story about V.B. from when I was an innocent hostess at Ruth's Chris on Broad St and she was dating Louis Roussel....:toast:

I sound so highschool, forget what I said.

Please tell. I got to know her a little bit through a work relationship with her husband several years back. I heard all of the stories about Louis and assumed that was all in the past, but also heard recently that he had bankrolled some of her more recent restaurant adventures.
I know if you go to Impastatos, she has some nice pictures in the wall there.

This is kinda silly, but does anyone have a picture of her? I think she was in my yoga classes a while back, but I'm not sure if it was her or not.

She is a skinny good looking blond with a pointy nose. At least from my memory from five years ago that was her.
She was nice to my wife and her, but I still had my doubts as a restaurant person.

Bayley was in her prime during the 90's with Mike's on the Ave. (1991-1999).
She was a somewaht hands on manager/co- owner that mostly posed in print ads with her trademark black high heels. She definitely had a glamorous image but the 3-4 times I dined there I got more hype than substance with the food.

Then she turned her attention to the northshore and Artesia in 1997. I can't for the life of me remember the first chef (Maras?) but later John Besh game on board and blew everyone away. It looked like Vickey had another hit.

Then something weird happened. At that time nutria meat was being pushed as a way to save the wetlands. The LRA wanted chefs to finally find a recipe that would successfully market the meat. Almost nobody in the restaurant industry took it seriously but a reporter was sent out to interview restaurants and Artesia was one.

Besh was out of the country (France, I think) enjoying a well deserved rest so his sous chef, who I think was all of 21 and with tongue firmly in cheek, told the reporter that, heck yeah, we serve nutria in the grillades and no one knows this difference! Well it got reported as true when it was obviously a joke. Vicky, when she read it, said "What the HEY?" And proceeded to fire Besh for the transgression. It may have been phrased otherwise but Besh was out. And honestly the place and Vicky's rep has never really recovered.

And let's not bring up the next pair of chef's hired that torn thru Covington in a drunken rampage.

Now I remember...next was Maras. The best thing he did there was bring in two young chefs named Tory and David who after their stint there left and opened Del Porto in Covington. She let another good one get away.

I know she was in on the beginning of 7 on Fulton but is she still there now?

I understand she has a family now and that is a lot to handle. I suspect her high heel days are over. Maybe that what makes Bechac's attractive to her now. As with anyone in the restaurant business, I wish her well.

Yeah, I remember the two chefs that went nuts. Didn't they have an incident at a Sonic or something with either a tazer or whips, or something along those lines? I just remember it was a strange story.

She sold out of 7 on Fulton last year sometime.
Somewhere in between this, there was a little tapas bar or something along those lines that she opend on Lee Circle.

There are a few pictures of her on the wall at Impastatos from her days as royalty out at the Fair Grounds when she was Louse Roussell's girl.

They were drinking at a restaurant in Covington (City Club?) and got so drunk they were asked to leave. Ended up at a Sonic and did not understand how the place worked so they started punching at the food pictured next to the parking places. When no food was forthcoming, they started to beat on the sign. They were totally wasted. The cops get them in the backseat of the cruiser and the woman kicks out the back window...and here comes the taser.

And the subsequent Longbranch Restaurant did not fair any better. But after they left the established MiLA in NO and are doing some fine things.

Makes you think that building in Abita must be on some sort of Indian burial mound or something.
