Crabs

Post by RouxTheDay »

I gave my mom "6 meals of her choosing in the year 2009"-Meaning, I would take her to dinner anywhere she wanted to go with the exception of chain restaurants.

I just called her to see if she wanted to go this weekend and she said she'd prefer if we could pick up some great fat boiled crabs and eat in.

My first thought was Salvo's since I live on the Westbank but if you guys have any favorite spots to buy boiled crabs, I'll venture out.

Thanks in advance and Happy New Year.

I had some at Salvos a couple of weeks ago and they were awesome.

I know thats not a new suggestion, but...

My favorite boiled crab spots are the Galley on Metairie Rd. and Schaffers in Bucktown.

My dad was in town for the holidays and wanted crawfish/crabs. Husband picked up both from K-Jeans. Merely ok. Crabs were not nearly as spicy as the crawfish (no select yet). Anyway, 10# and a dozen crabs... $80. BTW, he said the service sucked. Were it not for my dad, he would have walked out.

I had some Saturday from Lapalco Seafood on Behrman. (?!?!?) $25/doz-They were very tasty but hit or miss. Some were fat, some were mushy.
Shrimp were $8.XX/lb.

Tuesday I had some from Salvo's.(they were out on Saturday as was the rest of the Westbank) They were $26/lb and HUGE and FAT and DELICIOUS. Crawfish were $4.25/lb. Small but tasty.

Why not go to Perrino's boiling pot on WB xpressway. Go through the tunnel take home Perrino's seafood market on the right, or make the u-turn to go to other Perrino's & eat in.

Perrino's was first choice. I called and they said they'd have them after 4:00. We showed up at around 4:30 and they said "oh, we RECEIVE them after 4, they won't be ready until 5:30 or later.
