Crawfish
When is crawfish season? My kid and his buddies are here and want to try them...can they be found this time of year in any of the restaurants?
Re: crawfish
I've seen them the last couple of weeks in a couple of places. Salvo's in Belle Chasse is the one I currently remember, they were pretty small though!
And I think the season is January to July???

Re: crawfish
River Pond (?) on Airline has them. I called about 2 weeks ago and they were over $4/lb. Yikes!
As for eating in, try Deanie's or The Galley if you're not inclined to head over here to the BestBank for Salvo's.

Give them until about the middle of next month to get rolling. Seafood Pot in New Sarpy had them $4.50/lb. boiled this week. Small, but tasty, nonetheless.

there is also a seafood market at Met. Rd and Severn.
RiverPond is my favorite in this hood.
After Mon & Tues, even the calendar says W-T-F!

Dennis's seafood had them 2 weeks ago. One block off of Transcontinental, N of West Esplanade. Also small and expensive, but very good!!!

Not all great food is reproducible, or even available, in different regions. Sometimes, when you live somewhere other than the home of a particular dish, you make allowances. I have learned to use the phrase "... for New Orleans" in those instances. Good pizza "for New Orleans." Good Chinese food "for New Orleans." Good boudin "for New Orleans." Good bagels "for New Orleans" (there is, IMHO, no such animal). But until I tried this true Mecca of mudbugs, I didn't even realize I was compromising my palate by sampling only the local version of what I previously believed to be "good" boiled crawfish.

I had some Friday night from Coffee's Boiling Pot in Madisonville. I don't know the price. My brother (who lives next door to me) was going there Friday night. I ased him to bring me 5 pounds if he could (You usually have to reserve some crawfish). He did and I am so thankful to the resturant for letting him bring them to me. It was my 1st time this year eating crawfish. They were perfect. Some of the best I ever had. I can't wait to get some more.
