Took advantage of some teachers at the kid's school offering a babysitting night from 6-10. DH and I had special dinner at the Bombay Club. reservations were for 645, we arrived at 630. We were promtly seated in a curtained booth. Perfect. We started with martinis of course. Dh is a non-drinker by choice but deferred tonight and had some sort of vanilla vodka concoction. I had a bloody mary concoction with Tabasco olives. Whew! Very spicy. Especially near the bottom of the glass! DH had the crabcake with mirlaton slaw. I tried the cake. It wasn't the best I've had but was okay. We each had the 8 oz filet with stilton, mashed potatos and bordelaise sauce. It was good. My filet though was actually two small pieces plated together. We also had the sauteed mushrooms. These were very good. We finished by splitting the white chocolate bread pudding. The waitress had told us (after we ordered) that they were out. When we declined another choice, she brought one to us and said that that one was actually the last one. Frankly, I think by eating it we did the next person on the bread pudding list a favor. It was terrible. Very bland. The best thing about the dish was the whipped fresh cream. Service was great. Very leisurely. There was a private party in the house so it was busy and noisy but it didn't bother us. It was certainly not the best meal we've had, but it was very enjoyable and memorable.
Followed dinner up with drinks at the Carousel Bar to hear John Autin play. Highly recommended. Picked a half round booth in front of the piano. It was crowded with people watching the game, but they turned down the volume on the screen by the piano. When the tigers scored, John broke into LSU fight songs which appeased the crowd angry about turning down the sound. Hated to leave the bar, I was having a great time. Had to pick up the kids for 1000 and wouldn't you know it, they are wired and wide awake as I type. Oh well, that's what this afternoon was for ;)
