Sunday Dinner

Post by kcdixiecat »

Ok, here I go again being nosy? What did everyone do for dinner today?

We spent the morning working in the yard...then came in and fixed a big pitcher of margaritas and watched football. Just did ribeyes on the grill, Jag's potatoes , and asparagus. Now, I'm contemplating making cookies...haven't quite made up my mind yet on this one.

Just got in an hour ago from a glorious weekend at the beach house with friends. DH is cutting the grass so and there's nothing to cook so I've ordered pizza. Last night made up for it though. Three cheeses from Sweet Home Farm in Elberta: Garlic Blue, Gouda and a Tuscan. French bread, roasted garlic fresh from the oven and good olives. Then we moved on to Ceasar Salad and Barbeque Shrimp with lots more bread. Finished with a walk on the beach hunting sand crabs and then Boston Cream Cake (purchased).

I'm almost sad to be home!

I was there last weekend, praline. Our group also went to the cheese factory. :) Did you by any chance slip over to Fort Morgan to see the Civil War ship that was uncovered by the storms? I posted a link to the news story in another area here. Unfortunately, we didn't hear about it until after we got home.

Tonight I made a gumbo of sorts, with shrimp, crawfish, sausage and chicken. Kind of a combo. Delicious, the only problem is there's soooo much left... and just two of us now.

JudiB,

The Civil war ship was a major reason to go back - we were just there two weeks ago for Gustav. The house is on Ft Morgan and the ship was only a 15 minute walk down the beach. Unbelievable. The metal spine was intact and the wooden hull seemed pretty intact too, considering. The brass flange that held the rudder was beautiful. I was really pissed though, some people were carting away pieces of it! Yday a mother and her son walked past us with a long pice of metal. This morning, the same family walked by with yet another piece! I had my camera with me and took a pic of the kid holding it. He looked nervous. Then we asked Mom "Is there anything left? We have a truck if you want to cart it all away" She just ignored us. But that is so shameful!

I want more cheese! We ate it all!

Kitchen sink gumbo - love it! JaG comes home soon, bet she'd love some too!

Seriously, it freezes well.

We had Vietnamese at 9 Roses. Delectable as always!

Had an old friend and working companion visit from the SF Bay area. Friday night, two pounds of shrimp, red/green/yellow peppers, etc, etc, etc, went into wife's Shrimp Creole with yellow rice dinner, served with fresh asparagus.

Friend left around 3:00 pm Sunday. We had leftover Creole again Sunday evening.

AH!! Great idea, Isa... thanks!! I'm picking up JAG at the airport this afternoon! I'm gonna bring some goodies.

I also have some wonderful crawfish macque choux... (murdered the spelling) I got the corn from the Burris Market.

Dang IT praline... I was afraid of looters. Good for you for the comment. I wonder if it's possible to excavate/preserve it somehow?

Besides the cheese place, I love the Burris Farmer's market and Old Tyme Pottery. hahahahahaha.

I grilled two very thick and juicy strip steaks to go with some baked potatos and wine. Almost made the Saints loss bearable.

Homemade angelhair with Alaskan king crab ( would have preferred jumbo lump), oven roasted tomatoes and asparagus, tossed in a light butter /stock sauce with just a touch of cream. Pasta was so good I should have left the other stuff out. Also made claflouti with nectarines, blueberries, raspberries and crystallized ginger for the first (and last) time.

I tried a recipe for "Tex Mex" Mac and cheese with some smoked chicken mixed in. It was pretty good but I'll need to tweak the recipe to make it better. When I try it again and figure it out, I'll post it.
