Byblos Now Open on Citrus & ?

I was going down Citrus yesterday and the sign on the new Byblos(old Fat Hen Grill) says Now Open. This is a welcome addition to the Elmwood/River Ridge area IMO.

One question however. The GF LOVE gyro and if I'm not mistaken, Byblos does not sell gyro meat. Is this correct? And if so, why not? Every other Greek/Lebaneese place does: Acropolis, Phoenicia, Mona's, Lebanon Cafe. Just wondering why.

The Market and food court locations have always had gyro. The restaurant locations' menus only have a gyro sandwich available on the lunch menu.

globe9: do any of the Middle Eastern restaurants here have lamb shawarma on the menu? I know Byblos has chicken shawarma. Any lamb? Not the ground-up/gyro-style--I'm looking for a place that stacks marinated strips of lamb (only lamb) on the spit.

Does anybody know if this new location is more like the market on Vets in terms of counter-service, cheap prices, or more like the locations in old metry and on Magazine?

Had dinner at the Byblos on Citrus last night. It still looks like a diner on the inside...no renovation from Fat Hen Grill that I could tell. It is counter service and the prices seem slightly cheaper than the Uptown and Metairie Rd. locations. They do have a gyro platter on the menu.

I work until 8pm and we got there about 8:55pm....they close at 9pm. We didn't know this. I don't get it either. 9pm seems quite early for a Friday night. The hours are 11am to 9pm every night. I would like to see them open till 10 pm or ideally 11pm on weekends. Especially with the theater right there. My SO and I like having a late dinner on Fridays and checking out a midnight showing.

The gyro platter was delicious. Overall, I'm glad this is now there and offers another great ethnic place to choose from in the Elmwood/Harahan area. Just wish the hours were later.

My wife and I had dinner there tonight. It is as Globe said, counter service. You order, pay, get a ticket with a number and grab the next available table or booth. When your food is read they bring it out to your table.
We got there around 6:45 and all the booths were taken. But by the time we ordered one opened up.

We each had the gyro platter. It is a ton of food for $8.99. A very generous portion of gyro meat, cut a little thicker than normal but I actually liked it. You also get hummus with an olive, a pile of basmati rice and a Greek salad.

If you go in the evening before sundown and sit in a booth facing Citrus you will have the sun in your eyes.

I definitely recommend it for a casual bite.

Sounds, for the most part, like how they do it at Byblos Market on Vets. Except for you pay when you finish. Or maybe it's that's how it works because we're in there so much, and they know us, but I don't think so. Hopefully, the Citrus location will do the kabob and kafta specials like they do at the market-- the chicken kabob is really good, as is the braised lamb shank.

I've never seen lamb shawarma here.
Too bad, done right, it would be great!

We took the kids there tonight and I wish I had read this in advance so I would not have wasted my time. I was looking for a nice sit down dinner. I see now why my experience was so weird.
We walked in and took a table. A young lady took our order on a tiny piece of paper. We got our bill before we got any food. The food came out on styrofoam plates and I had to go get plastic forks at the counter.
Before we finished eating, another young lady come over to get money for the bill. (WT...?) So I got up and paid at the counter, but by this time, I saw a few other people come in and pay when they ordered.
She came back soon thereafter and was most anxious to clear the table and take our drinks.
They weren't anywhere near closing nor did they need the table. Weirdest dining experience in my life. And the food was just ok.
I will say that they comped some food for us. Three orders of Falafel came out with Tahini sauce (and chopped pickles & cucumbers) on them. That's not how it's served at the Market location on Vets. They did replace it the Falafel without the Tahini. I offered to pay, but she said no, so that was nice. I believe their intent was to make it a nice dining experience. Not a big deal, but I was disappointed.
