The Real Pie Man

Has everyone heard about this and I'm just catching on? My co-workers ordered lunch from this guy Thursday. I already brought lunch but since they talked it up so much I gave them $5 and asked to get me a gumbo. I just had it for dinner. WOW, that was some great gumbo. I could hear the oohhs and aahhs in the lunch room from my office Thursday while everyone else was eating so I can imagine that everyone was enjoying their lunch as well.

Have you ever tried The Real Pie Man? I don't even know where he is, someone just brought it to me, but I can't wait to try more.

I don't think this is the Pie Man in Mid City. This guy has a truck or something and is all over town. I'm not sure the details but I'll find out from the girls at work on Monday.

Jag, The Pie Man is located on the corner of Franklin & Fifth in Gretna.
They do have delivery trucks & go around the city selling their goods.

I've written several reports on this place, but I can't find any of them.

We live pretty close to there. We stopped in once and picked up. It was good...but not great. I'll have to try the gumbo, as I'm always in search for great gumbo.

Does she just show up with different things already in tow...or do you order and he delivers?

I talked to my co-worker this morning about it. She said you can call ahead and they'll have that on the truck for delivery but not much else. She also said their crawfish bread was great and is usually the first thing to sell out. Some of the others had stuffed bell peppers and loved them.

I figured that's how it might work. When I stopped in we got the crawfish bread and the stuffed peppers. Those were both good. I think mr. nikinik got a pork chop and that was dry.

When my office was located on the Jefferson Highway across from Devon Storage just a couple of blocks from the Huey P Long Bridge, when word spread through the office that the Pie Man was in the parking lot people grabbed their wallets, purses or just a fist of money and headed to the door. He would have soup, smothered lima beans, white beans and rice, gumbo, crawfish bread, plate lunches usually with chicken or pork with veggies and maybe mac and cheese, stuffed peppers, pastries and other desserts, and several other items. People would buy food for lunch and to take home for dinner. The food was always good. You could call in and request something and he would have that for you. He is one of the things I miss the most about working in that location.
