I finally went to Restaurant August

I met some friends who moved to Austin after Katrina for lunch at August yesterday. I can't believe I've never been there. It's a gorgeous space. Our server was really good and fun.
I started off with a nice Hendricks martini. Some one ran to Luke to get me a cucumber slice even. (ironically when last I was at Domenica, someone had to run to August to get the wine Bam ordered)
DC1 got the prixe fix lunch special. For $20.09 she got a really thick rich soup...pumpkin I think with lump crabmeat. Looked wonderful. She had the duck and dumplings entree and this really good dark chocolate donut-like dessert (which we all helped devour).
DC2 had the soft-shell crab entree that was really good.
DC3 had a salad. She'd never been to New Orleans before and was not accustomed to the richness of everything she'd had since arriving. She was also shocked at the fact lunch was a 2 hour event.
I had the Louisiana sushi appetizer and the gnocchi as my entree. The app had 4 pieces of rolls: one with a fried oyster, one was red snapper, one lump crabmeat with caviar, and one with salmon. A fun appetizer, I really enjoyed it. And of course the gnocchi was amazing. By this point I was on martini number 2.
The amuse bouche was this rich seafood custard with caviar served in an egg shell.
I took yesterday off of work because I needed a justagirl day. Started with August and finished with friends at a Mano. Drank the afternoon away at Parasol's in between. It's good to be me.
