Did anyone make it to the Bulldog or Avenue Pub yet to try this new beer? I really wish I could have attended some of the events at the pub, but will settle for a seat at the Bulldog tomorrow afternoon to sample some of this brew.

Are you talking about Stone Brewery, the makers of Ruination Ale and Arrogant Bastard, among others?

I did. I went to the event at the Mid City Bulldog and enjoyed a pitcher of IPA with a friend. That beer sure is hoppy! I think some may call it bitter, but it is only because they are not clear on the complexity of flavors that properly managed hops will bring to a beer. And it was also my first visit to the Mid City Bulldog and it was great! I may like it better than the uptown Bulldog.

I made it to the mid city Bulldog tonight and tried the Stone IPA and arrogant bastard. both very nice, but I liked the arrogant bastard better. Glad to have that brew on the local scene now.
The mid city location has much more room than Magazine, especially with the much nicer patio.

Bam and I made it over to the Avenue Pub to try the Arrogant Bastard Saturday afternoon. Great beer! Definitely not for everyone, but if you're any where near a beer geek you need to try it.

Arrogant Bastard on tap debuts at the Ceol Irish Pub, Reno. Going Saturday night for a try. Will let you know after whether I am an "everyone" (see: not for.....) or a supporter.

I have had both the Stone IPA and AB and they are both heavy on the hops. They remind me of some of my early homebrew batches, before I got the hang of how to balance things. I don't subscribe to the notion that more is better in the hops department. But I am probably more a traditionalist than some. I like hops, but like them a bit more smooth and rounded in the mix. Note too that I am always drinking the beer without paired food. The right food pairing can make all the difference. I preferred the AB of the two. Note to beer tasting nerds - if cig. smoke bothers you, Avenue Pub is not the place to go. Very nice selection of brews there, but the nicotine factor definitely diminished the tasting experience for me.

I admit that I am a hop-head. My latest homebrew is an IPA although I didn't dry hop it this time since many friends come over for the holidays and are turned off by the dry-hopped kegs.
With that said, my non-beer drinking friend liked the Arrogant Bastard much more than the Racer 5 this past weekend at The Avenue Pub. I find the AB hops much more incorporated into the beer and the Racer hops to be hanging around like an added condiment.
BTW, as G-man wrote, there was a lot of smoking going on but the weather was nice enough to have the doors open and it was fine.
I have to say that the best "fish sammich" was off it's mark that night. If I was really hungry I would have returned it. Thank God Kimmie's guac was killer.

I had the Arrogant Bastard tonight. That is one special brew, but wouldn't want it all the time. So intense, would blow out my taste buds. You gotta try it though.
