Kingfish

Your wish is my command, Oyster!
Kingfish is a new restaurant - not yet open - that is located at 500 Lafayette St. in Old Gretna. They will be serving sandwiches, a burger, soups & salads. I saw the menu last night.
A little bit of different spins on a Muffaletta, Rueben, Cuban, a turkey sandwich with avocado, Roast Beef, Cochon de Lait, Croque Monsieur,
and a handful of other sandwiches which include a Weenie PoBoy & a Fried Baloney Panini. Hmm, the owner must be a local boy! (Did he grow up on Juneau's?)
I also recall a grilled cheese with portobellas that featured grilled onions & Emmentaler cheese for the veg heads.
An 8oz burger will be grilled on the open flame rotisserie.
(Please God let it be a handpatted fresh burger & not a frozen patty).
Comes with all the usual accoutrements. One not so usual one which you can order as a side is homemade french fries that have been fried twice!
Sweet potato fries prepared in the same manner will also be available.
What looks to be homemade soups which change daily . . . .
I recall Redbean on Monday. Soups ran from Monday to Saturday, so I'll assume they are closed on Sunday.
Corn Macque Choux & Baked Potato were two of them but I don't recall which days they were assigned.
Salads - I remember a Wedge, a Wedge with bacon, a Chef type salad, a Caesar & a Wop Salad.
Yes, they dared to call it that on the menu. You can do that in Old Gretna.
There were a handful more that I'm not recalling in this moment.
They are painting the inside now, having painted the outside Red & Black.
It was very dark outside when I viewed it & it appears to be a nice shade, but anything will be better than the baby poo color this bldg was before.
It's in Historic Gretna & this really goes with colors of the neighborhood anyway. The inside walls have been lightened as well. Refreshing & clean.
While I really miss the food of Brazilian Restaurant that used to be here, I'm so glad a new restaurant will be opening here - the neighborhood needs one.
The menu, while just sandwiches, soup & salad - looks well thought out.
Attention to detail is alive! Is it just because the owner is the author of "Goodnight NOLA?" and knows how to write? I hope not.
Those of you who have to go to the Gretna Courthouse will be in close proximity. It's just 7 blocks off of the Lafayette Street exit (heading toward the river).
Remember, this is what I gleaned from reading the menu.
I have no idea who Cornell Landry, author of Goodnight Nola, is.
I hope he respects our neighborhood's sleepy feel and does not turn Kingfish into a rollicking onto the streets venue.
We already have two too many of those in Old Gretna.
